What this guide will split up into
Common tips you should know
Stance and how it helps
Punch styles
Ground attacks
Dirty tricks and how they work
An overall good way to fight

Common tips you should knowDon?t get into the fight if possible

Never take your eyes off your opponent, look him in the eyes
Be in a sidewards position so it makes them harder to attack you

Never allow yourself to be cornered or backed up against the wall, or your dead meat

You shouldn?t show weakness ever, so give your opponent a smile or a quick laugh during the fight

You should keep a clear mind during the fight, not thinking, just reacting. Anyone who?s been in a fight knows adrenaline fucks you over and you can?t control it

No kicking above the waist; it leaves you open to attack and your not fucking Bruce lee

Move your head in co-ordination and in the directions you punch while punching. An example would be if your doing a right jab it?s going into the left side of their face, so move your head and right side of your body slightly to the left aswell; while maintaining balance and keeping your feet on the ground

When your stuck into the fight advance closer to your opponent so that his punches won?t have as much effect because he hasn?t got enough room to get much power out of them
Stance and how it helps
Boxing stance is the best way, if you do it well enough.

Because it?s quick to get your puches out, move towards and back into it for the guard if you need to. I?m no pro boxer, but that is the best stance to do it; and it?s never let me down.

Heres a pic of the boxing stance:

Notice how he can make a quick jab with one hand, while he can block incoming punches from the opponent with his other hand. Also notice how is face is protected at all times.

Punch styles
There are many different types of punches, and all are effective in different situations

Jabs
A jab is a punch used most commonly in a fight, and it?s used for a quick attack and able to go back into a guard and jab out with the other hand; while still being able to defend with the other hand.
A jab is just a quick straight forward punch to your opponent and then pulled back out and into your guard. Try to get these jabs in on the side of the jaw and the front of the nose.

Here?s a picture of a jab:

Hooks
Hooks aren?t reletivley powerful, but they can knock your opponent off balance easier. I?ve found they only really work well when your close to the opponent and they are already slightly dazed or off guard.
I?ve found getting power out of hook punches relies on the quick swirling of your hips while doing it.
An example is if you were doing a left hook you?d move forward a tiny bit on your right foot and and move with your hips and the direction the hook is going.

Something I usually do is get stuck in and close to my opponent and make it so my hooks are quicker yet still effective, and quicker meaning I can get more hooks popped out on the fucker, while he has barely got any space to get any power out of punches.
We are getting power out of our close punches because we are moving along in the direction of our punches aswell, which is still giving us some space.

Here?s a pic of a hook:

Note: Hooks and hooks don?t go well in a combo, but a hook and a jab is great combo

Uppercuts
Here is a picture of an uppercut:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/manson1996/uppercut.jpg
An uppercut is mostly aimed at the chin and jaw, and uppercuts like jabs should be quick which is why an uppercut and a jab to follow up is a good combo.

You should bring your fist to do an uppercut no lower than where your fists are while your in the stance; so we can get speed in on the uppercuts. You should get the quickness out of the uppercut but use more force and drive your fist up further for the power.
You should be stuck in and pretty close and have them off guard or dazed before you try the uppercut.

Straight punch
Theres no need for a picture here.
It?s basically the same as a jab except more powerful and forecful because it?s usually used to smack down or straight into a part on the face.

A time to use this would be after an uppercut, straight down on the nose or straight anywhere onto the face. Best effects are after an uppercut and to do a straight punch going across the side of the jaw.

Ground attacks
Now as we all know, most fights have both fighters rolling around on the floor looking like absolute twats. This will often happen to anyone in a fight at some point in their life.

1st of all it is prefered that you don?t go down to the floor but that you get your opponent down to the floor with either the punches or when he?s dazed from your punching; you then grab around with both arms below after the pelvis and push yourself forward to push him down to the ground and have yourself fall ontop of him.
You can also put your leg/foot behind his while you do this for more chance of him falling on the floor.

And get into a position called the mount
Here is a pic of the mount:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/manson1996/mount.jpg
But instead you should sit up on his chest and then pound the fuck out of his face. He will not be able to hook your arms or defend if you do it like this.

But if this happens to you, try and hook his arms or head and pull him close to you so he cannot sit up or hit you.
Hook his arms and wrap your legs around him like this:

And try to roll over so it changes positions and it ends up you ontop.

Dirty tricks and how they work
Ok first of all fighting to me means anything goes, but it is preferable that you only use dirty tactics on another dirty fighter, someone stronger and tller than you.

Crotch shot
Pretty obvious; get lower and uppercut your opponent in the balls, or kick them as hard as you can upwards. This hurts like a motherfucker and is enough to put anyone out of action while you continue to pummel them with punches or you can grab hold their head and bring your knees to their face repeatedly.

Eye poke
Simple yet again, come in with a few punches or go for a pretend punch(stop before you hit them) to make them flinch, and a quick poke to the eye will temporarily blind them while you smack the fuk out of their face. Or you can grab hold of their head and stick your thumbs into their eyes while head butting them in the nose.

Screaming
Mostly used to shock or freak the opponent out; playing mind games with them. Take their mind off of fighting so you can use it to your advantage.

Spitting in their motherfucking face
Used as a distraction/gateway and to put the opponent of guard giving you an advantage.

Cheap shots are really common sense but some others are clawing and biting.

An overall good way to fight

An overall good way to win is to remember the basic things mentioned at the start of the guide.

I don?t tend to do this but many could, and thats to smack talk before the fight starts so you have chance to quickly get a feel of your surroundings, and make a strategy on your opponent. But doing this can also give them an element of suprise with a cheap shot while they are talking shit.

The best way is to start with quick jabs to the nose using the jabbing techniques I talked about, and advance forward keep jabbing and come in with a straight uppercut to the jaw and then follow up with a straight cross punch across the side of the jaw to either KO or daze them, so that I have chance to trip them to the ground and then kick their fucking head in or to push them to the ground with myself and wail on the motherfucker.

looking in their eyes is about the dumbest thing you can do...if you've taken boxing at all, they teach you to concentrate on shoulders...you can generally tell where a puch is going to land from the movement of the shoulder.

no mention of kneeing or elbowing earns my complete hatred of this thread. I cannot cound the amount of times a opening elbow to the jaw has finished a fight for me. has the benefit of throwing your body weight into it, extremely fast, and generally unexpected.

working at a strip club is a great way to learn fighting the hard way...having two ex-military bouncers/guards/"floor hosts" show you moves is even better...

Looking at any one part is the dumbest thing you can do as it encourages tunnel vision. Try and look at them as a whole and be aware of your surroundings. And also for the stare down that is inevitably before the fight look between there eye's in there cyclops it will make you blink less :)

boxing tells you to stare at their hands or shoulders

Which is fine until you get a kick in the nuts.

kick in the nuts rarely ever works in a fight...people's legs move around too much, and way to easy for someone to get you into an ankle lock. that and the fact that most people don't kick cause either they know that kicks are much harder to land than punches...less it's a snap kick...and usually street fights get real close, and then ends up with grappling...if you can get most people on the ground, which is fairly easy due to all the weight shifting, more than likely you can win...unless they've had training...but that should be evident by then.

It's a strange thing about people in Cork... They don't get close during a fight and just swing their arms and legs at the person they are fighting. The way to beat them is to get close, keep your body as tight as possible crouch a bit and then repeatedly uppercut into the ribs and hook to the face. Even better if you can back them into a wall. All they will be doing is trying to punch the top of your head which will hurt their knuckles more than you, or their legs will just me wrapping around you so you can grab it and pull, dragging them to the ground where you can stomp.

Of course there are exceptions to that... Knackers will just be vicious and are totally unpredictable, and anybody with experience in boxing, etc, will instinctively fight the way I described.

To be honest If I get into a fight I would try and kick in there kneecap before they can get too close. I just do not think it is a wise idea to watch and focus on any one part of someones body

kicking really improves your long range in fighting. if u practice it could be better than punching in fights. aim for the knees, chest, and abs

I've done boxing & I was alright at it, but when it comes to street fighting I'm not all that good, even though I've had the boxing training.

Also, my hooks are much better than my jabs, and I can't kick for shit unless they're on the ground.
