View Full Version : So I went to a Rave...

And I must say, it was rather wonderful.
It all started on Friday night. My friend and I went camping with some of my Dad's friends here : http://www.lajollaindians.com/Campground/ . and, to our surprise and delight, there was a big rave in the 100 campsites east of our own.
this is the rave: http://www.elysiumfestival.org/
Now, they wanted us to pay $80(it was a friday-saturday-sunday festival-rave kinda thing) to get in, but we were like "fuck that, a bunch of hippies, e-tards and Kandy Kids cant have very good security." (and they didnt)- so we walked out of the campground and along the highway until we found a clear spot on the hill laeding into the middle of their area (the front and back were roped off and guarded by people checking for wristbands) where nobody was, and then hopped the barbed wire fence (that was the indian reservation's), waded through the river, and we were there, and I must say it was certainly a sight to see. I only wished I had brought my Dexedrine with me, but alas, I had to be content with pot and alcohol (I didnt have any cash on me, though I dont know that that would have mattered, so I didnt wrangle up any E). I'll try and post the pictures I took, however my damned computer doesn't get along with my damned camera, so I dunno...
Anyways, enough backstory, What do all of you think of raves? good, bad, Awesome, retarded? As for me, this little adventure has made me want to go to another rave, and next time I want to try E. Which is question number 2: I haven't ever tried E before (which is amazing considering all the other shit ive gottern my hands on) and was wondering what all of your thoughts on the drug were.

My experience with E, which is none personally, but as observation, is that it makes you really hyper and restless. I guess it depends which pill(s) you take, but that's about it. I never asked anyone to describe the experience as far as euphoria goes, but it seems most people chew and talk quickly, which suggests time slows down??????

hmmmm...I don't generally go to parties much anymore...I get slightly agoraphobic/enochlophobic...so my answer will be biased...
and I hate E.

You should try it. Worst case scenario, you don't like it. It'll still be an experience though.

Raves are class if the crowd and DJ are good, and the crowd is probably more important. I was at Tiesto twice last year. Once was a weekend festival which was unbelievable, everyone was loved up, and the other was a one-off concert full of kids. The second was, obviously, dump (although the rubbish pills might have contributed).
As for E, it's my drug of choice. I had a class night last Saturday thanks to it (and the fact I've lost my ID). As for concerts though, I prefer my dirty (speed and ecstasy) buzz. The pills at the weekender were filthy to the point that I still have scars in my mouth, but the concert was incomparable. Helps with dancing too.
Personally, I like to just chillout with Ecstasy. Fuck dancing. A couch, a stereo, some massage oil and some girls - and my night is sorted.
Unfortunately, it's nigh on impossible to tell what kind of pills you're going to get, apartf from word of mouth from friends who have tried the same batch (rather then the same stamp, which is meaningless), and that's not even a dead cert.
Anyway, to sum up, ecstasy is class. My preferance is towards speedy pills for concerts but that's just me. Some buddies disagree.

Thats basically what I was figuring.- i do like some of the other speedy-type drugs though, like dexedrine and adderall, so I figured E would probably be somewhat similar to them.

Thats what this elysium place was like, hell, on saturday during the day they put up a bunch of art around the river and turned it into a llittle psychedelic forest.

I'd probably agree with you here, I have a bottle of dexedrine (dextro-amphetamine) sitting in my desk, but I didnt bring it with me b/c I figured we'd just be chillin around the campfire all weekend. Then we got there and found out there was a huge rave next to us. I was irritated at myself- pot and liquor kinda just bogged me down while thre, though they certainly improved the music and made it much more entertaining. I was just wishing I had my dexedrine b/c all thaat dancving looked so fun, but I was too drunk/high to dance properly.

Well, my understanding of speed is limited to what I feel after dirty pills. Personally, when I go buzzing I drop two E pills to start. If you want to dirty up a clean buzz I don't know how you'd manage the dosage, especially after experience with Dexedrine (again, of which I know nothing about). 1 E and 1 Dex, or 2 E and 1 Drex. To be or not to be...
On top of that, mixing pills can be dangerous. Plus you'll be dancing, which won't be good for the heart. The Erowid reports (http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.cgi?S1=3&S2=6&C1=-1&Str=) don't seem all that positive either. Might not be a good mix. Probably best to stick to one or the other until you have a better understanding of MDMA and it's negative effects.

oh, yeah, I have no intention of mixing the two drugs, I wanna see how E feels by itself, and, assuming im able to wrangle some up, ill probably just start of with one hit to see how it is, then maybe more later if i feel like it.
oh, and just to tell you what dexedrine is like, if you've ever done cocaine, itspretty much like that except there's no numbing, and it lasts for about 5 hours, and the comedown is actualy (at least forme, but other reports refute this) somewhat pleasurable and nice and slow, unlike coke which makes you feels on top of the world one minute, and then almost instantly you feel like utter shit.

Quick not about you're first time on E - it's usually very special. Maybe not after so much Dexedrine experience, but buy two pills at least. My first time, I had one, then another an hour later and a third some time after that. One wouldn't have been enough. If I had only had one that night, it would have taken away from what was an amazing experience.

ah, well thats good to know, I guess Ill try and take two then.

It's true. Enjoy it as much as you can because after the first few times you will never experience it again. From there on in you keep searching for that perfect buzz but will never reach it again (at least with just MDMA).
I hate dirty buzzes, but afaik dirty buzzes aren't down to MDMA mixed with speed, it's the chemist taking cutting corners and you ending up with MDA or even worse, PMA.

I've gone to raves for years and I still have a special place in my heart (amongst other places) for ecstasy. Raves are generally lots of fun with the right people and good musik. I'm somewhat biased since I don't like the "epic trance" trend of the united states parties, but they're still enjoyable if you go for the musik and for carefree interaction. I still think x is best at home with a few close friends and a nice stereo system =)
...but yah, beyond the rambling, I love raves. Just wish they were still as awesome as they used to be.

Sasha is in the Savoy here on the 21st, but I have no idea what it's going to be like. It's in the city centre and Sasha ain't exactly a rave DJ. So what should I wear? Day-glo or shirt and jeans? Because I know whatever I do wear, I should have worn the other. I suppose I'd rather be wearing a shirt at a rave then day-glo at more formal event.
The question holds true for the drugs too. I don't want to be the only buzzing in a chillout crowd. I'd say I'll probably bring the pills inside and decide there.

Heh, there'll be plenty of buzzin at Sasha. Just try to get the cleanest pills possible, a dirty buzz wouldn't suit prog trance.

Raves would be nice if it werent for one thing.
Ravers, (or rather candy kids). That and the whole shitty venues, shitty sound, super high prices for everything from water to drugs (which I dont even do anymore so yea).
I will however recount the first rave I ever went to
I dont know about one or two pills not having a lasting difference in ones life...
2006: On a short sabbatical from mskatonic university Shortcake as she is known here invited me to a rave, so I went along, and when in rome, of course you do what the romans/ravers do. I rolled, pretty hard, had done it before with close friends a few times, but this was different, a brightly colored dreamland of, of, of, oh Its so hard to describe, well I guess its not that hard to describe, a brightly colored dreamland of fucking retards, the horrors that I experienced at this event where beyond even the most twisted dreamscapes of HP Lovecraft. Every step of my travels was fraught with dangers, dangers like people named "Rainbow" or "Sweatyfuckinggumdrops" coming up and screaming in my face "ARE YOU ROLLING?!" again and again, It was like I was stuck in some kind of malevolent gerbil wheel. After an hour or so I was no longer feeling anything that could be close to what many of you folks call "PLUR", no, now I was feeling AHHA "Anger Hatred Hostility Agression". At one point when one of the denizens of this nightmare world that smelled distinctly of charred asshole, vicks vapor rub, and AXE body spray was asking me for the 16th time if I was rolling (In the space of about 5 minutes mind ye) I decided to try an experiment , Instead of saying "yea" I said "NOPE, NOT ROLLING, JUST HAVING A SEIZURE, HANDLING IT PRETTY DAMN WELL IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF THOUGH". This was the first time I had made progress in the entire night, finally I had found a weakness, a chink in the armor of what only moments earlier had seemed to be a undefeatable earthly manifestation of cthulhu's half sister Yog Plurgothhrh, Anger was their weakness, sarcasim was a sword I could weild to cut my way through the throngs of the drug addled horrors I was seeing. Making my way to the top level of the azatlan I was able to seek refuge from them and wait for this festival of horrors to come to a close.
One year later I still fear a return to that Nightmarish land of the raver, and only the sight of brightly colored beads, or the sounds of Yog Plurgothhrh's whistle will send me into fits. I write this now in hope that someone, somewhere will read it and come find me, save me, nay, save yourselves from the horrors that are awaiting.
Run, run if you can, but whatever you do dear reader, never, ever ingest those seemingly innocent tablets offered to you from a brightly colored person, or you may just meet the same fate I did.

Uhm yea, 2 pills of x + rave almost ruined electonic music for me, a year later raver is still a dirty word to me, I am only just learning that not all ravers are candy kids/complete fucking retards. From what Ayla has explained to me, I became a jaded raver in one night, except Im no raver, no, I will never be, nor do I care to be one (

Well what did you expect if you're not going integrate with the experience? I wouldn't call myself a candy raver (the reference to day-glo in the other thread was sarcastic), but I appreciate the special atmosphere of the event. At a rave there is no social structure, no form, no "game" play. Everyone is inevitable having a brilliant time and are best friends with the world. On any given day I will despise the cheesy dance music that seems especially concentrated in this city (every pirate station ever set up here played the same dump), but that's beside the point. We missed out on the golden days of acid house and the birth of classic trance. The days of hastily organised parties in the countryside, of Paradise Garage and the Hacienda are gone. The law have caught on and put a stop to it, and the General Public have jumped aboard and ruined it (Love Comes again - Tiesto caught red handed over Trance's bloody corpse). It's been replaced by the cheesy-mongering happy hardcore which feeds on musical ignorance and the Freudian Id complex of modern society. Dance music is in decline and there's nothing we can do to save it. But fuck it, drop some X, buy a whistle, a headband and a glo-stick, lose the attitude and enjoy yourself. This is ours.

The shite that's being played now isn't Happy Hardcore as many believe. Real Happy Hardocre died almost a decade ago. This Flip n Fill kinda crap is absolute shite and is just crappy slowed down, dumbed down, half-assed remixes of the real Happy Hardcore. Look for Bonkers 4 (any Bonkers up to 6 is Happy Hardcore, they get progressively worse after that, but 4 is the best) on a torrent site. Hear the difference yourself. Sharkey's mix is the best in 4.
Also, even though the majority of pirate stations are for kiddies 'spinnin around in da maaaad punto biyyyyyy', Tech FM was fucking brilliant, as was early Radio Friendly. Sub 87 played some good stuff too, a mate of mine was a d'n'b dj on it. It's a pity these days that radio is gone shite here again. (until I get the bobs together to get my new decks and one of these (http://www.veronica.co.uk/200werpfmtransmittersystem.htm)

True enough, my experience of pirate radio is pretty limited. I won't lose hope quitr yet...
I'm debating in my head the idea of getting rid of my technics for a pair of Pioneer CDJ-1000's. I'll be able to get so much more music for so much cheaper and so much easier. Functions like "Loop" would be life-savers and my one big hang-up, that you can't stop the record and play over a beat (without which I just couldn't beatmatch), is solved with this latest edition. Everything points me towards the CD decks, but....... there's just something special about turntables and records.
That and the cash. There are other things I need more.

CD DECKS ARE THE DEVIL!!!
Seriously, if you wanna be taken seriously as a dj don't make the change. And still, no matter what anybody claims, you do have more control over vinyl. You can read vinyl, you can't read a CD. I wish I hadn't sold my old decks, I shoud have repaired them. I still have a large collection of vinyl just screaming at me but until I get a job, it's a no-go.
Btw, if you're looking for good music around the city, the cruisc?n l?n is having some good gigs lately. Supposedly the sp?lp?n also, but havn't been in there in years.

Raves are cool, sometimes a bit clicky.
I prefer Freedom Fests myself... more layed back, with a tendency toward my drugs of preference as opposed to raves.
That event you went too looks more like a "freedom fest" than a rave. I base this mostly only the fact that it was outdoors, and the picture in the link you provided shows a guy on stage with a guitar. I have never seen a person play a guitar at a "rave".

yeah, looking back on it i think youre right, it was more of like a mini-burning-man festival than a rave, although at night they had the whole rave atmosphere goin, with blasting techno and lights and such.
