What are some good filesharing programs? Are there limits to them? Do they have viruses in some p2p programs?

Thank you for your patience.

Moved to from WWW to HCP&E

It depends on what you are looking to download. I usually use bittorrent (http://www.bittorrent.com/) and a good client is http://azureus.sourceforge.net/. I also use http://w2.isohunt.com to find the torrents I want to download. It is good for movies, software and large collections of music.

For music, if I'm looking for single tracks, or something I can't find on bittorrent, I use either soulseek (slsk) (http://www.slsknet.org/) or WinMX (http://www.winmx.com/). They are the only two that I trust, I know that there is no spyware installed when installing these programs. Slsk can be hassle though, because so many people will only let you download from them if you are on their allowed list. WinMX can be hassle because there are so many pricks using it, when you are downloading a track from them they cut you off because you are using their bandwidth (so they take without giving, something I really hate!).

I use warezp2p, because it has a great name.
www.warezp2p.com

It's good. Simple. No viruses or spyware THAT I HAVE NOTICED THUS FAR.

I agree with Stone on Soul seek. It's nice. Just stay away from KaZaA.

I started out on DC and still use DC++ sometimes. It is Highly
Configurable, so Configurable it has built in switches and Shell
Coding to Handle stuff like Traffic and Permissions etc..

I use WINMX alot! it dosent have any Spyware and has what I
want in Functionality. It is also Un-Populer so you dont get IRAA
and MPAA Probes like you have with Shareaza,Kazaa k++, and
alot of others.

I am a big fan of the "Torrent" Protocol(not Bittorrent!!).The
Bittorrent Client is my Favorite.

My all time Favorite is USENET! you just download the Binary
Text and change the extension to Exe through a Command
Prompt or Shell Script.I first used it in 1992 on my friends
Computer that had a Modem.

I would also like clear up the rumor that "Movies like the new Star-
Wars arent gotten by people who break into Studio Computers"
but Instead over Search Engines because of bad File Permissions
and/or Folders.Sometimes more than others a person who
works for the Studio leaks the file to Hax0r Communitys to
acheve status.

BTW:Inless they changed it the WAREZ client is binded with
Spyware.I think it's called AdBlaster.

I used to use WINMX but like it is stated alot of people are pricks and don't let you download from them or if they do its at .01 kbs. Now i use the regular LimeWire which i have found works well. S25, is it worth it to get pro?

There is only 1 way to share warez. That my friends is DC on a lan. When my group fire up a dc server, we have around 2tb of data to throw around.

There is only 1 real way for it to be done and thats 100mbit+ connections. Get out of your house with your PC and LAN, get some warez and enjoy the gaming.

I have 400gb of crap, soon to be 800gb... yummy....

I use Soulseek after C.R. Ripshit told me about it and before that I used WinMX but I did get viruses from that.

I benn using slsk for years. It kicks ass. And since no one knows about except the cool people, you find alot of good music from bands you might not have heard of otherwise. Especially if you hang out in the channels. You meet cool people on slsk. Some dude on slsk sent me cracked Windows XP and some firewall/antivirus suite which I seem to have lost before it hit the stores. For nothing. It kicked ass.

Slsk is the closest P2P client to Napster, which I have come across... Napster was the first I used, and even though I had a shitty 56k connection, it pwned all of todays clients!

I get pretty much everything off bittorrents. I would use Shareaza to look for a specific song.

Went from Napster to Kazaa, then legal troubles... Used BitTorrent at Suprnova.org but they've shut down.

Currently I use slsk.

Slsk and Ares are good filesharing programs.

Bit Torrent is my personal favorite. It's better to be able to download discographies instead of just songs, just it can wreak havoc on your internet connection. It's also great for finding software.

The "Download Folder" option was something i was very fond of with slsk.

I don't like sharing though... I don't like people being able to see a selection of my HD and I never liked having to seperate things which I was willing to share with things I wasnt. This is why Bittorrent rules. You share until your U/D% is 100 (unless you're an asshole :-P) and no-one has to know whats on your PC minus the torrent you're currently on.

They can only see what you let them see...I like the rule. give something, take something. I also like to spread info, which is one reason I would keep alot of my files open. about 2k of documents...alot of people appreciated it, as they were hard to find.

This thread is almost 3 years old so you'll excuse me for dragging it up again, but has there been any development here recently? I'm looking for single tracks more than anything else - I still use torrents for albums.

I use FrostWire for music, it's never failed me. I hear over in the UK they're clamping down on all this music/dvd sharing. Three warnings and you're booted off your internet provider & blacklisted. They're using a special program apparently, same prog that catches nonces out. Read it in an English newspaper, The Sun or The Mirror; maybe someone can check it out online... I can't be arsed, busy making signatures & avatars.

For music, use Frostwire. If a song is hard to find, then it's best to download the album.

REL0AD, you mentioned how in the UK you can be blacklisted from various ISP's, good thing mine doesn't have a clue/doesn't care what I do...

Used to use Frostwire/Limewire but not anymore. I remember when people used Napster...

Torrents work well for albums...

Yeah, could you give any other information to this? I can't remember much as I bought the UK papers over here & I don't keep em, can't find anything on the g00gle neither.

Aye that's what I do. Frost is quite quick too & it allows you to preview the song your downloading which is could to check out the quality. When I was younger I used sharebare or something like that, it was shite.

The ISP's are passing the information onto FACT (http://www.fact-uk.org.uk/) [Federation Against Copyright Theft]. FACT co-ordinates the black listing by contacting various other ISP's. So far 11 ISP's in the UK are collaborating with FACT, so as long as you are not on one of these 11, you are safe [ish]. Other networks might kick you off if you are using to much bandwidth and what not.

The main 11 are the big ones, BT, Virgin, Sky...

But even so, so many fileshare they can only get a very small percentage of the people...

I use PeerGuardian as a safety feature, if it is just giving me a false sense of security then it is doing a good job.
I recently downloaded PeerGuardian 2, but I am very strict when it comes to removing programmes/files I deem unnecessary or what I don't use much (to stop my HDD getting full of shit)...
So I removed PeerGuardian, but I carried on downloading pirated material, and after about 2 days of PeerGuardian being deleted, I got a letter from my ISP with the usual bollocks on it about Copyright Infringement, and I have had my IP address reported by some anti-piracy organisation, anyway I had to pay to get re-connected to the internet, as it's my second strike (another strike I get permanently banned from using my ISP).
So I decided to download PeerGuardian again, and It's running 24/7 on my PC now, and I haven't heard a word from my ISP since the last incident, this was around 5 months ago.

It's currently blocking (supposedly) 772324634 known Government and Anti-Piracy Organisations from seeing what I'm up to...

That I did. Doh!

Anyway what company is your ISP?

DoubleTShiftty
8th April 2008, 10:44 PM
KCOM (Karoo)...
It's not as simple as switching ISP's for me, Karoo, are the only ISP in the area...

Unluckily, I live in the only area in the UK where it is run by Kingston Communications (Karoo/KCOM), they are the only ISP and the only Phone Company... BT is not an option.

I am on Wanadoo/Orange. They arguably have the best service in the UK. Plus we also have AOL at our house which I can use as somehow we are still paying a subscription because they failed to deactivate our account. Orange really dont care what you do...

There more interested in the money than what the consumer is getting up too...

That is generally how it works for most businesses Th0r. My ISP especially, should be more concerned than any other ISP about cutting customers, as they only have a small customer base.
But, I suppose they need to be seen doing something about the issue if they have had it reported to them by some kind of Media defence/anti-piracy group, as was the case with me.

I can be certain that if my ISP caught me up to 'no good', then they would turn a blind eye, it would be in their best interests.

Frostwire seems good. I downloaded it there and decided to test it with some obscure minimal techno and it found some stuff from the artist, which I wasn't expecting.

i use frostwire mostly, and it works pretty well. i also feel safer with it because limewire is loaded with trojans and trash files. one thing with frostwire and CD's is that sometimes you need to get a key to open up the files and get the music out because it is .zip, but other than that its pretty good.

The problem with Frostwire for me is it never has enough Peers for the song/video I am downloading...
