Hello,
I thought that would be right place to ask this question - anybody succeeded in doing this (removing unknown BIOS password) ?
Practical suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Friend of mine set the password then decided to remove it - on the change password page he entered old password then in the field "new password" he pressed enter.
Now laptop is screwed - old pass doesn't work and what's new password nobody knows:sad2:

I'm not sure about where the CMOS battery is located in Acer laptops but here's a rough guide. Remember to earth yourself every few minutes by touching something like a radiator. You don't need to when dealing with desktops due to the metal chassis. Laptops are made of plastic, you can't earth yourself with plastic so every few minutes touch something big and metal.
You need to unscrew all the screws at the bottom, as well as remove anything removable such as the hard disk, battery, optical drive. Once the bottom cover is off have a look and see if there's a disc battery (similar to a watch battery but bigger) and then remove that for a few seconds, slot it back in and that will reset the BIOS to default settings. Should you not find the battery there, you should be able to find clips that if you unclip will let you remove the keyboard. It maybe located under there. If not then you'll have to remove the whole chassis. The battery will be there somewhere.
You should be able to find a guide on the internet somewhere on how to disassemble the model of laptop your friend owns.

Another question. Do you have any stuff on the HDD that you need to keep?

This method shouldn't affect anything on the HDD. The BIOS is stored on a CMOS chip, not on the HDD.

There is often a jumper labeled PWRST on the motherboard. If you simply move that jumper, power the system on and off, the BIOS (including the passwords) get reset back to the default factory settings (usually no password). You do lose all of the BIOS data, but that is usually not a big deal anyway.
Check with the vendor for the location of the jumper.
This is usually much faster than waiting for the CMOS system to discharge when you remove the battery.
Hope that helps!

I removed the CMOS chip from mine after I forgot the pass. Unplug the battery too.

I haven't ever seen a jumper for BIOS reset on laptops, that's why I said the battery method, but yeah, it's very possible there is one.
