I've had a love affair with (now) abandonware FPS's for a long time. Doom, ROTT, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake/Heretic/Hexen, Catacomb, Pathways into Darkness, Blake Stone, Blood, Shadow Warrior, and so on, are all classic favourites (left Wolfenstein out of the list because I remember spending obscene amounts of time stumbling through pushwalls amidst increasingly teary eyes and whilst trying to keep the motion sickness to a minimum). Most recently, I've been replaying ROTT .
The only 'modern' FPS I've enjoyed was Serious Sam, which has enough self-aware derision and old-school shoot-em-up aesthetic to make it a fine extension of the classic spirit of FPS's. Everything else I've tried (Halo/Marathon, Unreal, Far Cry, and to a lesser extent Half-Life), looks cookie-cutter and watered down, complete with the now-prevalent product placement and blatant advertising and/or militaristic propaganda, to be suffered through once or twice and then left forgotten or reduced to multiplayer showdowns (any game whose selling point is its multiplayer capabilities is an abject failure as a game in and of itself).
To me, the mark of a great FPS is one that entices you to play through it multiple times, as if one were rereading a favourite work of literature.

Non-source CS and Day of Defeat. BF2142 is ok too. I only like multiplayer FPS's. I used to love games like Doom, Quake, Duke 3D, etc, but I know them so well that if they were books I'd be able to recite them by by heart. The thing about multiplayer FPS's is that it is never the same twice.

i've enjoyed Doom and classic shooters from the NES/SNES line - before the multiplayer days. I like playing some modern stuff too, but only for their multiplayer aspects, like Unreal, Resistance, and some cartoonish shooters on the side.

Non-source CS and Battlefield 2, BF 2142 is ok, but i prefer the real guns in BF2.

Unreal Tournament was ok, but I thought it was so similar to Team Fortress and Team Fortress had a better engine in the HL engine.

I got hold of WARPATH for PC on Friday & I fucking love it. The gameplay, graphics & the story line are pretty good.
Heres (http://www.playwarpath.com/) the site.
In my opinion the official site makes the game out to be pretty cheesy, but I certainly do recomend it to anyone into FPS. The 'flatline' difficuilty setting is unreal. Go forth & buy people...

Well, took me about 4 fucking hours to even figure out how to get it to work, the damn DRM. If anybody does buy it and have problems when trying to launch it (it asks to insert the correct DVD even though the correct DVD was in the drive), make sure that you don't have any virtual drives enabled or DAEMON Tools process running in the background (even if there's no drives enabled). It took me ages to fucking find a solution but I had to turn off UltraISO and Alcohol's drives and shut down DAEMON. Problem now... I like to rip all my discs to my hard disk and mount them in virtual drives for huge speed benefits. Now I can't with this game, or I can't have anything else mounted while playing. What a load of fucking bollox!

Possibly created that way on purpose so u cant mount it?

Virtual drives serve other purposes besides piracy and my virtual drives should not be held to ransom by some game publisher. Anyway, it'll probably be only a matter of days before a patch is released by a cracker group.

Regular, recruit, hardened & veteran are the PS3 levels.
I did it on recruit first now I'm going through it on vet. Pretty fuckin hard, unlocked the cluster bombs though so they make for some fun.
What's your favourite level? Can't beat 'Charlie don't surf' in my opinion. All out carnage.

I have minimum patience so the one wher you go across the field by crawling and avoid the enemy patrols..... I cant do that on Veteran.

Don't do it, just run back and hide where the spotter you killed was in the tower. There's a Stinger up there as well.

Of the latest FPSs I can think of, would you have; CoD4, Crysis or Far Cry 2? What about multiplayer? Is there anything apart from Unreal Tournament? I have CSS.

Crysis. Another game I played yesterday.
Multiplayer on Crysis does look fantastic.
It would definitely have to be Call Of Duty 4 or Crysis.
I just found out today there planning on a Far Cry movie.
On multiplayer First Person Shooters Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory is a great freeware one and I think its the greatest free game ever released.

Question; who else plays Call of Duty 4 online (as in PC online)?
I may rant on about how games are for fun, but these challenges are wrecking my head. It's impossible to kill two people with one claymore. But I have to do it. Because I don't consider setting up that challenge to be cheating (because it's impossible in the first place) I'm looking for two volunteers to run face first into a claymore together. And I guess there are one or two more I'd like to get done. I'll sacrafice myself a few times to aid your quest in return, I suppose.
And here's a tip for reading this far; to do the "Hot Potato" challenge, throw your own grenade at your feet, then pick it up and lob it again. It doesn't have to be an enemies grenade to complete it.

I do when I am at the local LAN cafe [two times a month] and I first played it in mid February. It is a pretty fun game. I'm gonna get it off STEAM probably within the next month or so :P.

Bizarreness. I just managed to complete two of the most difficult challenges in CoD4 at the same time by accident. "Return to Sender", in which you have to kill an enemy by shooting their own C4 and "Dominos", where you have to kill an enemy by setting off a chain reaction of explosions. I just ran into a room with my shotgun blazing, got killed near instantly, and got the challenge completed pop-up. On top of that, I completed some other claymore challenge too (Expert III). The chances of that happening just seems to miniscule I thought I'd let you know.

In all fairness I think Goldeneye for Nintendo 64 was one of the best games ever. It was the first video game I played. Along with Perfect Dark and Zelda...
One of the best "Retro" FPS's along with Doom 1 and the legendary Doom 2...

I used to play Counter Strike for hours back in the day. Got really good at it. After a while I started using hacks and cheats to make it more fun for me. That got boring and then I moved out of my friends place and never played again. Good shit still though.
