So I was browsing on the web looking at the prices of operating systems and XP is priced at ?89.00 I was a bit taken back then I saw the standard Vista was ?55.00!!!
When ever I go into the PC shops it seems like they have forgotten XP as 95% of the PC's are Vista...
Is it me or are they trying to force Vista on everybody?

What % of the systems are Win95? No, it's not you, it's called 'marketing a new product'. Out with the old, in with the new, even if the new sucks ass bananas.

well ive talked to many people on the matter of vista vs xp. the biggest complaint is that vista was so new that all the kinks hadnt been removed yet, while xp has been around for a little while so they have it running as well as it ever will. I ended up buying windows vista home premium and i love the operating system. it works great, and as to the technology of vista not being perfected yet, thats y there are updates. you say that for the 55 euros or w/e it was for just the vista basic, if u get premium or any of the higher upgrades it will cost the same or more. they arnt trying to push vista on everyone, its just hype of new technology, and the cheaper price may only be due to the fact that the operating system can be produced cheaper.

I use a dual-boot between XP Pro and Ubuntu. Since Microsoft owns Apple, I find it hard to believe they rushed out to meet up with OS X, especially since Macs suck ass.

I hate the hardware and the software.
But I hate the hardware to a lesser extent than the software.
The software is complex and difficult to use. I personally cant get my head around it but maybe thats partly to blame on the fact I was using a German Mac in Koln. Also I hate the look of Apple Mac computers. Although Ill grant you this, the Mice look cooler than you average ones...

XP took years to mature, as will Vista. The problem is that it shouldn't have to take time to mature. M$ is making people pay for incomplete software. Would you buy a beta program if you were promised that bugs and kinks will be ironed out through service packs and updates and that it will be release quality after a few years? They know that they can get away with it so they do it. And, apple aren't much better. At least M$ charge you for a new OS and give service packs away for free. Apple release a 0.1 increment of an update that fixes bugs, gives the GUI a little more glossing and adds feature that are extremely minor or can be added for free using 3rd party programs. But, this update costs a hundred fucking quid. So, if bought OSX at it's release, and have bought apples service packs, you're looking at the bones of 700 quid, for the same OS.
Linux is the way to go. It hammers OSX and Windows, and it's free.

Then you are wrong. microsoft does not own 51% of apple...
On the topic of vista, if it didn't have such slow transfer speeds...I would consider it. that coupled with the "security" issues...yeah, windows is dead...though the new server package ain't bad.

I never said Microsoft owned 51% of Apple stock, voting or non.

You DID say, however, that Microsoft owns Mac. For one corporation to own another, one of the business must hold the majority of stock. Thus, for Microsoft to own Mac, Microsoft must own fifty-one percent or more of Mac stock.
But, I could be wrong and there may be something on the subject that I know nothing about. So take what I say with a grain of salt.
Edit: Also, concerning Vista and XP; I find Vista to still be a bit too clunky to replace XP. And such will probably be the case years down the road. However, time will tell.
Also, apologies for bumping a month old topic with my first post.

Speaking from experience in owning stock, if I buy one share of anything, I own it. Sorry to respond to your first post with semantics.
