A game i used to play when i was younger called Darkages, a 2D isometric game which is MMORPG style. Can download at www.darkages.com, but be warned there are a lot of children who play the game and it has player run political systems... so a lot of people act like retards on the game...

It is a very interesting game, and it is fun to play. I actually was one of the creators of a private server for the game called Capricorn. The capricorn server was written in C#, through the aid of packet reverse engineering (Along with client reverse engineering to aid some things like encryption/decryption algorithms that are quite easy to crack). The game is mostly now "Un-hackable" by n00bs because many of the older hackers have abused every bit of the game which was hackable at one time or another and they fixed many of the bugs. There are still hacks, but I doubt anyone who has knowledge of them will be telling anyone how... and anyone who used to hack DA got bored of it by now.

The first server emulator that was widely known was called MYDA (Malasyan Darkages), and they ended up giving up on the project because of all of the bugs in the game itself and all of the hackers who made themselves GM's and caused tons of problems from the start.

The seccond server emulator that was widely known was called LOR (Light ages) and it was created first by some korean guy, and Swinky got ahold of the source and took up the project. Well, to say the least it was coded HORRIBLY and bearly worked. It's hard to understand the pseudo code comments since theyre all in korean and it's very hard to work with. None the less swinky dropped the project, a few others got ahold of it and tried their best to make it better, but no one ended up doing a damn thing...

The third server emulator that was widely known was called Capricorn. Capricorn came out of the dark around 2004 and it was headed by Silo (And at the time silo was the only programmer working on it). For a while silo worked on it, re-coded it over and over and eventually I came into the picture and helped him with it for a few months and he dropped the project aswell. So i ended up working on the project for 2 years on and off (I'm known as Foubar to most of the DA population as it became my nick from a few IRL friends namely Tom Amanda and Mark, my first coupple of tripping buddies. I was what they would call fucked up beyond all recognition! i just addded the o because many websites fubar is already taken).

Well, I actually got further than anyone had ever gotten before. I had all of the basics of the game programmed in, and almost all of the more advanced concepts like skills/spells/afflictions/warps and dynamic scripting was also implemented. The server ran quite nice, and I had almost 30 or so people on at a time helping connect maps together/real time editing maps to make them look better, but eventually I ran into the curse that everyone else has ended up with who took on such a project. I dropped the project early 2007 and went on with my life outsourcing my programing skills online and locally to companies all over. Needless to say I didn't have time for it, and without anyone else on the dev team I seemed like I was the only one able to do it... and I wasn't about to donate my life to something as simple as a private darkages server.

Recently out of boredom I have decided to take up the project because silo and saraet have decided to start programming capricorn again. Some of the packets have changed, and some of the encryptions have changed, but we figured out everything that has changed so far.

Capricorn should be done soon, and anyone who is interested in playing is welcome. Theres a forum on ragezone but i dont feel like linking at the moment :P google capricorn darkages and i'm sure you'll find it.

Darkages has gone down the hole over the past... 5-7 years, but for newer players it might be more interesting than it is to me now. Should check it out
