A friend plans on buying a PSP, he want to get a 1GB memory stick for it. He does not want to pay anywhere near 100 dollars for a fucking piece of plastic and microchip...So he was wondering, what would be the easiest way to take it without being caught, and what stores should I think of taking it from..We have a Target, Best buy, Walmart, and a few other stores around here...Best Buy would be hardest because they have the best security..Any ideas? I told my friend I would ask around on the forums I visit..

Wait.....WHO wants it? WHAT is it? And WHY would you publish incriminating evidence online?

Keep shit discreet.

Asking the internet how to steal a piece of expensive electronics,
that is great.

They keep PSP's in glass cases, don't they? Steal an employee's keys, open it, and then

RUN!

The magic bag, barcoding, left-handing, receipt scams, the razor finger, trashing, and the grab'n'run are just some of the shoplifting techniques worth researching.

Yeah, I know how to shop lift, I started this for those who don't...Like my friend :D....One question I have though is, could you apply the principles of the magic bag and make yourself a magic pocket??

DIzzIE

The magic bag is a basic Faraday Cage ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage ), so yes, as long as the shielding is complete (here meaning that the pocket is completely lined with foil/sealed) the principles behind the magic bag should work for a magic pocket. One may wish to try the cell-phone test advocated throughout the magic bag corpus as a way to test the efficacy of the created cage.

Fallen angel on a0tu i believe made a magic bag pocket on his bag!.For those of you who dont know and just so i can clarify for myself the cell phone test is where you put a phone in the abg and ring it if it rings theres a leak correct? They do that with microwaves also.

Yes, that is correct.

I will try this next week when I get back from the "Forest" as everyone in my family calls it...

I say go to the target and steal the memory stick, i don't even think target has any security, and even if they do it would probably be the easiest to get away with but DON'T EVER try to take it from Best Buy, you will get fucked in the ass

LynchSavio, consider this to be your one and only warning.

Saying one will be 'fucked in the ass' for theft from Best Buy explains nothing and thus offers no contribution to the discussion at hand.

If you do not have anything coherent to say, keep your mouth shut.

While this may or may not work with the PSP memory cards at hand, it can work with many other similarly-sized objects.

When going to a place, be sure to have a couple items you know you'd be willing to pay for as soon as you enter...this obviously cuts down on suspicion of you blatantly stealing shit.

Find several of the same item that you'd wish to steal, and rummage through them, much as you would flip through a book at the library. Slide the item of your choice halfway up your sleeve, turn, and place the rest of the objects back on the shelf or hook. I say halfway, because it requires much less effort, won't be visible if your body's held in the right position, and won't show a bulge by your upper forearm.

Lower your arm as you shift to the next item away from any working employees and/or cameras, and just pop the item into your pocket with your one hand as you reach for an item that you really do want to buy.

To solve the tricky problem of entrance/exit security, buy the items you want, then head into the back with your purchases, go into the bathrooms, and remove the barcodes.

Won't ALWAYS work, as nothing's concrete, but maybe it would help you swipe a PSP memory or two, who knows?

Barcodes don't do anything for door scanners. Barcodes are meant to identify a particular product in the store and not for stealing.

Either way, it's easier to conceal said product without the bulky packaging and crinkly cellophane.

I don't think you understand the conversation... we're talking about the magnetic security tags which are detected at the door of said product has not been paid for, hence the need for the magic bag.

Target around here has just as much security as anything else, and I've never heard of people getting fucked from behind for stealing..Maybe a new type of punishment or something...Anyways, I went to Best Buy today and looked around a bit, the only way I could see that you could get away with stealing something, is to distract the guy that stands by the TV monitor thats connected to the cameras...This doesn't help you get out with it though, but if you could distract him you could at least get it to the bathroom and remove it from the package....

Hell, if all else fails, have a buddy tag along and ask him the price of a few obscure products. Stuff they may or may not have...he'd have to go check it in the database, and that could buy you several seconds.

Usually the guys that are by the bathroom keep a close eye on who goes in and out and there is a camera that keeps an eye on that area. If you walk in there with the box and someone sees you, you'll have guys coming in there and searching and holding you.

If they think you are stealing, believe me, there will be no way for you to steal.

kbk

That would be why you put the item in your pocket when you go to the bathroom. I bet eventually they will have those magnetic things by the bathrooms as well. I didn't get to pay much attention to the cameras at Best Buy because I was looking for the memory stick itself to make sure they actually have it...They were out of stock..

Does anybody know where you can get an item that will set off the door alarm? If so, you could get one, walk out the door and they'll search you but not find anything stolen. You can claim compensation from the shop for the said incident and then buy whatever you wanted to steal.

OsirisGuy429

They will see you walk back there with it. If an empty box is found, first thing they will do is head to the bathroom. If they see you walk back there with it they will be right on your tail. And they do have cameras by the bathroom, maybe not one right by it, but they have one that'll keep an eye on it.

Yet this is assuming they're extremely well-staffed to the point where the employees will actually be paid enough to care about who steals what. Most places, at least Wal-Mart, etc., are staffed by kids barely out of high school, and at the right hours, that staff is extremely shorthanded; meaning fewer eyes on you. It's a matter of acting casual. Like you mentioned, if they THINK you're stealing, they'll be suspicious. So don't act like it. Acting casual and using common sense are the keys to getting away with anything. Scope your targets out, pick what you want in relation to cameras or employees.

They are well staffed, well trained and if they did a good job preventing theft they get a bonus in their paycheck. And in most circumstances if they see you walking around looking, especialy, at high end stuff and you are of younger age you are gonna' have close eyes on you. They play stereotypes and if they don't like the way you look or act they will discriminate against you. If you walk in and pay something on Napster that the guys in the department don't like they will come over and shut it off on you. Maybe not in your face but as soon as you walk away.

Guess it ultimately depends on where you go. I've never had a problem with department stores, but I also don't live in the more heavily-populated areas. I figure paying for my shit's easier and not quite as mentally taxing.

As somebody who has played security before, I can tell the best way to avoid attention on camera is to act like you are doing nothing wrong. Do not look around, do not move sneakily. Just pick the item up and pocket it like nothing happened and walk out calmly. Security guards don't really WATCH the screens, so much as scan them for odd motions. As do most people in general. You can have sex in the bed of your pickup on the side of a major freeway and no one will notice if you simply act like nothing is amiss.

Listen up, the Magicbag DOES NOT WORK. I know because I have tried it in the past and it failed miserably.

Your best bet is no doubt Target. I have a few friends that work there and Target has a policy where if you get off the sidewalk its on, they can't do shit to you. Since the memory stick is small I suggest putting it in one of those plastic hand-baskets, walking around, and getting ready to run like a madman.

Do this: Grab the memory stick and some boxy-useless item, maybe a playstation game or something, what you do is use a confusion tactic. When you're at the door and the sensors start ringing drop the useless item and make like a tree off the curb into the parking lot , or preferably run until you're off the parking lot (in case you get a hero loss prevention asshole).

Make sure what you're stealing is under 100 bucks because over that is a felony in some states.

edit: also try and do this on a weekday. It'll be easier to shoot out the door if nobody is around to get in your way, security also tends to be more lax on these days. Also listen closely to the loudspeakers, "Loss prevention in aisle ##" this is important because if they say that it's time to drop everything and run.

I would hit Target because their bark is worse than their bite. They have people shook but they actually have their employees' hands tied over some stupid rules. Target will not chase you past the sidewalk either.

Is that true for any target? If so I will deffinetly have my friend check there...

Yes, because the ties that bind are very tight at Target. Target has a strict code that its stores and its employees have to follow. Of course, there are bad apples who break rules, but they're in the minority I'd like to think.
