Fine Food, Drink, AND Tobacco

Tobacco, although technically a drug, does not really fit with discussions of GHB and White Rhino. Seriously now.

Even if we say Tobacco isn't a drug, it's not a food either. When was the last time you went to a resturant and said "Let me get your finest plate of tobacco."? or "Can I get a cup of tobacco? No Ice!" Never. It's not something that's readily edible or even if used to shew (leaf itself or dip) you still do not swallow it, so it's still not a food or drink. Most things taht are chewed for this reason is to give energy from the stimulants in the plant or the taste, in which case it may be thought of as a food since it purtains to a speciffic taste. To do that however it would have to be a edible or drinkable form of tobacco that is flavored and the flavored discussed, and only then can it have reason to be in Food and Drink.

Drug: Any consumable product other than food that changes the way your body naturally functions.

Despite being quite possibly the most mild-mannered drug ever (next to caffeine), tobacco still remains a drug.

But as a closing last lick, it seems most of you failed to note that the point of my suggestion was to change the forum to allow tobacco, a non-food product, into the discussion. It IS a related item, and DOES NOT fit in discussions of psychoactives. Although I will expect any discussion of coffee, fugu fish, SoBe, etc. to now be moved from FFD forum into DDD from now on. Sound reasonable? They all contain drugs. Fugu even contains a psychoactive.

No it doesn't. You're just being petty now. If we were to follow your logic then Fine Food and Drink would become a ghost forum as many foods and drinks contain basic drugs, such as those you already mentioned.

It's a rather simple deduction I would think. You want to talk about your favorite coffee, Fine Food and Drink is the place to do it. You want to talk about the time you overdosed on caffeine pills, Drugs drugs drugs is the most appropriate forum.

You say you want to discuss taste, price and quality. Why can't you do this in Drugs drugs drugs? For a start you're going to get a more in depth conversation there. The odds of finding a fellow smoker in Drugs drugs drugs are much higher than if you looked in Fine Food and Drink.

Well, you just stated my argument for me. I never argued that tobacco was not a drug. Merely that it doesn't fit in with other drugs.

What I'm trying to point out here is that tobacco use is on the same page as drinking wine with dinner, as opposed to smoking a Camel and having a crazy nic trip. See what I'm getting at. The chemical content is irrelevent. The reason for consuming it and the manner it is consumed in is what makes it unsuitable for DDD. It just seems odd to have a discussion of fine cigars right next to people trading shroom stories. Just as fine dinner wines have no place in a discussion of "that time I drank a fifth of Wild Turkey and set my car on fire." This was my point all along. And yet this thread has people arguing that tobacco is a drug. As if I had ever denied this.

I can understand where both of you are comming from, and to certain extents i agree with both of your points.

However, how much conversation is going to be generated by tobacco? enough to warrant a sub-forum in drugs perhaps? Or a subforum in FF&D? How about we leave it in drugs for now, and if there is enough conversation we will give you a forum somewhere....
