Erythritrol Tetranitrate

This is basically the Roguesci formula..got the data chart from it IIRC..

Properties
Formula C4H6N4O12
VOD 7650*
Density 1.6
%OB +5.4
Gas vol. 704cc
Energy 6439
Impact 2,0Nm
MP 61?C
deflagr.p. 160?C

This is how you mix it, DO NOT stray from the ratios or it can turn into a runaway, and other bad ends : ).

60g Potassium nitrate is added to 100ml 95% Sulfuric Acid and cooled to 10?C. 15g Erythritol is added little by little , letting temperature jump between 10-20?C with each addition. Mix is left for 15min after last addition.

The mix, is poured into 2 litres water, a very fine crystalline powder will form and float to the bottom. The solution is filtered and added to a further 2 litres of bicarbonate (baking soda) / water solution, filtered again. This is repeated again with water and filtered. After it's neutral you're done.

I've been thinking about replacing primaries with ETN sensitized using Al powder..anyone have any suggestions? My experimentation has produced some sub-par results..some wasted ANFO etc, bad stuff.

Anyone have unique ideas? Questions? Comments?

ETN is an explosive similar to PETN. I think I am right in saying it is rarely used on it's own, but in mixtures. In the purpose of creating other high explosives...

It is similar to:
Ethylene Glycol Dinitrate
Mannitol Hexanitrate
Nitroglycerin
Xylitol pentanitrate

Due to the fact they are all Sugar-Alcohol Explosives.

One of the greatest things about it is that you can plasticize it, meaning no disrespect in what respect is it similar to nitroglycerin? It's a nitrate as opposed to a -nitro, furthermore it's a nitrated sugar (so it IS closely related to the others). Is there something I'm unaware of (not counting out the possibility). Or is glycerin a sugar?

EDIT: Glycerol..gotcha..brain fart..

Anyways it's a pretty sensitive HE, you can get it to fuse sensitivity with Al powder for GREAT results. It's extremely easy to make, erythritol can be bought online and at diet stores for CHEAP, like a couple of bucks a pound. After that all you need is a nitrate salt and ~70% conc sulfuric..so it's VERY easy to make.

It's quite powerful, briscant, and just all around great (it's one of my favorites). Also the positive O balance is great (like the Al+ETN combination)

It can be substituted for PETN in quite a few mixtures, not sure particularly which at the moment but yeah..
