drill a tiny hole in the corner or a window. coat the window in an invisible film, put a string attached to a rod though the hole. Hide the rod against the window in a way that it wont be seen or flat against the base of the window so it isn't noticeable. If this is done in an are where the window would never be seen like a basement window thats above eye level, your trick will never be found.

When you want to break in, pull the cord with all your might and the glass will shatter harmlessly and silently. Its obvious what you do after the fact...

another way is to put a fake faceplate over their lock so that when it comes time to get in, you remove the faceplate and use a screwdriver to turn the mechanism while you hold the pin open. The faceplate can be held on by that glue putty shit thats on the shopping channel. make sure to leave enough space to pry it off later on.

If you know what your looking for and you know where it is, you could always plant a series of shaped charges that will sheer off a wall behind where the safe/car/cache is located. This isn't worth doing for anything less that 100k worth of street value.

or you could just make a copy of the key while your there... thats an obvious one

may I ask why you are doing this? It seems to me that any theft could happen when the house is open to you and any later thieving would be unnecessary.

try to get a copy of his house key made b4 he leaves, or bump key, or buy some lockpicking tools

Find a window that he will never think to lock and leave it unlocked and maybe take apart and takeout the inner locking mechanism(so it will look like it is locked when it really isnt.) When you want to get in, glue a handle onto the window and pull. When you want to leave the house forever just put the lock back together and take the handle off with some peroxide or pain thinner.

Thats the easiest way i can imagine.

You could also find their spare key. Or just ask the kid to let you have a key for the time that hes gone.

People often suggest outlandish solutions such as making casts of the key, which in reality the people who suggest it have never done it. Honestly, ask him nicely, provide a good reason and you may get the key. He's leaving for two months, tell him if you can help him out by checking up on his house to ensure there's no break in.

Well making a new key if you have an original at a locksmith takes a few minutes, the hard part is to get the key for time it takes to get it to the lcksmth and back.
Well without asking the key I can think of a few ways: if windows are of the newer ones - unscrew the metal part, which holds the window locked and rescrew with very short screws, you'll be able to push open it easily (but are you going to use it as a door for a few months??).
2.Just leave it in unlock position and hope he won't notice.

Though here's another idea: watch?v=_iIlb6vvRmA . I think you could improvise to make it stronger/resistant after you have the outlines. I've never tried this (I'll try it, just need to buy some coke) but it seems to be interesting.

You might want to keep in contact with him while he is away...

Why?

My grandparents were living in Hong kong for a few months about six years ago. Their house was broken into, nothing was taken but they had to come back...

If something bad happens to him while he is away and decides to come back you might want to be one step ahead of the game, so that if you are storing anything there you can clear it out...

UKSWAT's method is by far the best.
