Whats your favorite assault rifle and why? Basically, if you were in an urban combat setting and could choose one assault rifle to own the enemy with, what would be your choice?
Im still learning about assault rifles but im thinking M1A with a Fulton SOMPOD chassis and a 100 round barrel clip full of steel core armor piercing .308 ammo

I like it because of the heavy rounds and the accuracy (they are used as sniper rifles in Iraq), Id take mine in black of course.
This is new to me so its subject to change...
Make sure to post up pics of your favorite rifle.

The TAVOR for the fact that its so small and futuristic looking while still having impressive specs and small groupings at 1000m
world guns (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as30-e.htm)
the extended P90 for the fact that it will handle high-velocity armor piercing rounds as if they were subsonics. And its just a damn sexy machine. Another great point is that it looks good with a silencer which a don't think is true for many weapons.
world guns page (http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg13-e.htm)
Custom C7's. they are beautiful when modded to a larger cartridge. They can manage 700 rpm on .457 long rounds. They would be a bitch to get ammo for and i doubt you could get one for less than 4000$. But this shit will rip down small towns as if it were wax.

I like simple.
I love the Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa 1947 goda.
Or the AK-47, to some people.
Before people say "itz notz acuratez", in the wrong hands it is not accurate. In the right ones it is one of the most accurate rifles ever.
If you still need convincing, Google Paul Tatum. He was an American in Moscow, Russia who unfortunately for him got on the wrong side of the dear Russian Mafia.
They sent an assassin to gun him down in the subway. With an AK-47 he hit Tatum eleven times in the head and the neck. He fired eleven bullets.

If I am correct it doesn't take any of Rorta's bandwidth if you post IMG Tags, but it takes Bandwidth from the site you grabbed the Image from. That's why sites don't like you hotlinking images...

your proof of the ak-47's accuracy is that a marksman could get eleven hits on a target in a subway?
thats like saying its amazing that a average joe could hit a man sized target 10 times in a row in a 100m shooting range.
Most ak's sold in North America have high quality barrels and internals. The ones in Africa have poorly rifled or non-rifled barrels and many hand filed parts.

in other words, beat to shit and poorly maintained. wouldn't doubt it..
i have heard that one of the main problems with ak's is the ammo. apparently, with match ammo, they aren't too bad. maybe 3 or 4 moa. good luck finding the good ammo though and the iron sights arent that good.
for most people, theyre pretty random. sure, you can keep them on paper at 100 yards, but with iron sights you won't do too much better.
ar 15, headshots at 300, no problem. the bullet starts losing a lot of effectiveness this far out, but the 6.8 mm and 6.5 grendel versions are available and conversion is easy.
ar's have to be kept clean though, and in a situation where this might not be possible and in terrain where the ranges would be short anyway like a forest maybe, an ak with a quality scope would work just fine.

You'll notice the AK's in Africa and other LEDCs are not manafactured by Kalashnikov, but by other crappy weapons companies. Probably ones you will never hear of.
The reason for this is that old Mikhail never secured a Patent for the AK, and designs were copied and manafactured. A small time American firearm company secured a Patent in the nineties...

the russians helped their allies set up ak factories in their countries. they supplied tooling and technical know how but once the advisers left, the locals started trying to figure out ways to make them "better". some things you can skimp on, some things you can't. stocks, sure. lockwork, barrels, bolts, and bolt carriers, hell no. running the tooling long after it is worn out because you are too cheap to fix it, bad idea too.
that said, the fact that they could still make something that could actually shoot and function with all those problems says something really good about the design.
i heard a funny story once. an adviser was training african troops and noticed they weren't hitting squat. they all had their sights set on their highest setting because they thought it made the bullets come out faster.

I think the Russians set up AK Factories back in 'Nam, as they had about 3000 soldiers stationed there when there was the war with the Americans.
The AK's in Afghanistan were stolen from the Ruskies I was lead to believe by the Pre-Taliban Mujahideen.

I thought that the ak's in afghan hands were sold off of the old sales from Russia to Iran?
I cant really imagine a group being able to steal enough weapons of the same kind to outfit an army of that size. Its not like they had Victor Bott working for them.

Yes, and the Iranians bought them. Plus the Americans were supplying them with weapons and we British were, according to an SAS book I read evacuated numerous Guerillas out and trained them...

allthough a bit off topic, my rifle of choice for "urban combat" as OP mentions is VSS Vintorez, a portable sniper rifle firing a heavy 9mm subsonic round. At 3.41 kilogramms, loaded and with a scope unit, only at 90 cm in length, with a 20 of that being an internally supressed barrel, and a 20 round box mag will allow me to carry it around urban ruined environment, and position virtually anywhere to remove kevlar wearing infantry at over 320 meters. The selective fire option will compensate enough for a average sub machine gun.

Thats an amazing gun but could be vastly improved if it could have a lightweight folding stock

my fav gun would have to be the sten.simple to make and mass produce.now the ninja could form and train an army virtually overnight by useing technieus that were effective and easy to remember.(i am not fuckin kidding you so long as they had the people)so supplying a resistance group with these and sumone who could apply the ninja army training techniqus to modern time.(witch would take alot of modernization) we could use the stens long enought to procure the ennemys more effective weapons

Is it only the FFL [French Foreign Legion] that use the FAMAS or all of the French Forces?

Well, it's their pride and joy - Of course they use it.
And I can tell why *Drools*
I still have no idea what the purpose of the "handle" on the top is used for (apart from mounting scopes).

unfortunately yes. It's like $20,000 for a full auto m14. Which means I'll probably never get to shoot one, regardless of how nice it is.

Yeah, Grenade launchers aren't exactly preferable for urban combat. Might work for Mass homicide (In GTA) but not modern warfare.

I can't really see a gold plating coming in handy for anything other than belting someone on the head with.

The Golden AK-47 would make a most excellent Wall Ornament, actually my 'Second Cousin In Law' has numerous Deactivated Rifles as Room Ornaments. And it would of made a good prop for the James Bond film, Goldfinger.
