Um Im kinda into music, mostly do the EBM/powernoise deal. Kinda the whole Panzer AG/Feindflug mixed with a bit of stuff like Paranoid, Suicide Commando, and VNV Nation.
But I can play the keys, and do the whole drum machine/synth dealeo.

I'm a mediocre bassist. Don't have any equipment right now though.

Here's a thought that just struck me: lets make a Rorta soundtrack. Everyone with musical talent produce a track of an agreed upon meter and length in their own instrumentation and style. And then we send it along to the next person, to mix in his own recording, until we have a completed work. Probably start with drums/beats. gbu?

Started out in percussion, so I can play but I'm not to used to a drum set as much, can only keep simple beats. I play a little bass as well only thanks to guitar. I don't have the speed for bass though as I do for guitar. Keyboards I could play, but I'd have to sit down and work on it a little, I can read actual sheet music but sometimes it'll take me awhile. Also picked up the harmonica, just to fool around with.

Mostly though I'm a guitarist.

This is a techno tune I knocked up on my PC using FruityLoops Studio 4 and SoundForge 7. Made completly from samples from Half Life and CounterStrike. I have Reason, and when I finally get the time to learn how to use it, I will hopefully be able to do some impressive stuff.

If any member has a tune they made, It can be hosted here and when the site is up we'll have a section for the music members made.

Hah, I have no talent, so I stick to vocals, lyrics, and organizing synth orchestra/violins.

All my stuff was done on Acid Pro 3, but I've lost the CD with all the audio samples and it's not published, which means the file I have would require the program and auido samples to sound any good.

I can play piano. :)

Right now, though, I don't have a piano or a keyboard, so I couldn't help with this rorta soundtrack business, but that's a pretty cool idea.
I remember Scentless made a rorta soundtrack thread, where everybody posted a chord, and he played it on his guitar.
It didn't get anywhere, though.

Well I tried all the notes and played them.... sounded like shit. And no recording devices so it didnt matter anyway.

It sounded like shit probably because it didn't follow music theory. Basically only a certain progression of notes can sound good together, and the progression has to be all in the same scale.

Armalite

That's not true. Many experimental bands shun music theory and still produce catchy and nice sounding music. Take Deicide. Their music often follows no particular scale or mode. Yet they produce great melodies. And musicians blend scales all the time. Even in classical music.

How is that written though. If it's a bunch of chords or notes? I assumed these were chords. Also how far apart is each note/chord? It's possible to change it up, but if it's note after note then it's not going to sound good.

It's also possible to change the scale somewhat through modes where you take one of the other notes in the first scale and play that particular notes scale.

Armalite

It's written the same as any other fucking music. There is nothing in music theory that suggests you must stay in the same mode or scale throughout a song. Scale changes within the same fucking phrase are quite common. Notes within the same measure can be octaves apart. Look at reggae. Octave note playing is quite common. Where the same note is played in a different octave. You seem to be forgetting that time scheme and rythm have as much to do with how music sounds as the pitch of the notes does.

I did piano up to grade 3/4 somewhere and can play a little. Learning drums.

I don't think I have the technology to record so I could brush up on my theory and tab out whatever I come up with.

Check out the 'Venetian Snares'. That guy turns music theory on it's head!

OsirisGuy429

Octaves are in the same scale...

For instance:
The C Scale looks like this -

[Root Note] ---- [3rd Interval] ---- [5th] ---- [7th] - [Octave]
C ------------ D ------- E -------- F -- G --- A -- B -------C

And so it repeats. If we went through that scale again and played a third C, that would be our 3rd Octave in th C Scale. And so on.

If we were to play modes we would take anyone of these noted, let's say F and play F's Scale. This would still confine in Music Theory. Modes are still very trickey however.

I play guitar fairly well (rhythm stuff, I can't do lead, I do mainly acoustic folk). I also know a wee bit of keys and harmonica.

I originally played an instrument on bass clef...leave me alone dammit. yeah, I've considered trying to pick it up, but...too lazy. besides, it's so fun to play by ear.

ahh...well.. I play guitar and drums. I focus more on guitar than drums now. But it's great 'cuz for me playing drums somehow gave me a better sense of timing (or at least I think so)..
Music theory was always a lil' bit confusing for me.. It never guarantees what you compose will actually sound good..
And I widow rather than use tabs. It feels so much better when you widow a whole song by yourself.. :sgrin:

Admittedly, that's not my setup. And I don't have those CD decks. Or the laptop. And my mixer isn't as good. And neither is my stereo. And I'm not very good.

What kinda decks you got? What kinda tunes do you mix? Got any recordings?

headcase

I have a pair of Technic 1210's that I got a little cheap because they needed a little touching up. I'm kind of between genres at the moment. When I got them about a year ago I was all about the Trance, but I've grown out of Trance a little. I'm thinking Progressive/Progressive-House/Tech-House, probably with a little Trance and whatnot thrown in as well (at least I'm focused).

Like I think I said somewhere else, I'd want to play a style like Danny Tenaglia, maybe crossed with the Fundacion album by Sasha. More to the point though, I'm still rubbish. There was talk of me doing a mix for S25's website which had an internet-radio thing going for a while but my decks and PC are in different rooms and hooking one up to the other would be extremely difficult.

Edit: Headcase's real setup (http://bombshock.com/forums/album_pic.php?pic_id=77). Complete with empty bottles of Aftershock and Absinthe. Also, I do know one of the decks is missing it's headshell.

Nice turntables, ya can't beat Technics for quality. Pity about the mixer though...

As soon as I get the cash together (ie, get a job) I'll be gettin new decks. 1210's and maybe an Allen & Heath XONE:32 mixer.

I'm an ex-touring musician who travailed across a few continents in a band a decade ago. I play lead and rhythm guitar....Surf Guitar to Flamenco...Rockabilly to Jazz.... lots of different styles. I play bass, piano, trumpet, some drums, and can sing very well. I've done a versatile array of different musics. I'll see if I can get some links up here and see if you guys dig any of it.

drums, all about the drums for me haha.

Play the trap set for our school jazz band and school pep band.

Also play the tenors for our drumline which is new this year.

If anyone still has some cadences or knows of any, i'm all about learning new stuff!
