This is a clone of my thread on bombshock but i thought t would be best to get every ones views.
Everyone wants power, but not many people are up to the demands of getting there. Leaders like Adolf Hitler, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro have went from being homeless artists, simple family doctors and baseball players to being a revolutionary power. Often its not conquest that people strive for. Many people like myself just want to change how things are run in the world to better suit our needs and wishes. That was what Adolf did. He gathered support in the nationalist socialist party and pushed his way into office. I am thinking the same would be true in a smaller scale for a motivated soul.
How can you rally support for your cause? It might not be a political party your brewing but a criminal syndicate. Or maybe a hate based purification army. How could you play with their emotions in a way that would give you complete control over them? There is the way some gangs and racist groups operate. They prey on weak and innocent people and put them in a situation where they feel compelled to join you. After that they are forced to stay for they know nothing but the warm embracing wool covering of the sheeple army. There are a few reasons that this would not be the best case. First, who are you trying to recruit? Do you want an army of self conscious sheep that will follow your will but fall at the slightest resistance. AS much as you want the numbers necessary to take whatever goal you have, a group of motivated, self sufficient soldiers is needed to whip your sheep into bulls. How might these people be swayed into following you? They wont be convinced by simple fear tactics. One thing that everybody loves is power whether it be money or drugs or protection.
Where would you find these people? Its always possible to talk to individuals and convince them to follow you, but propaganda is much more effective en masse. In the movie "American History X" a warehouse was bought and parties were held. Anyone that came would be shown a life of partying and power and be admitted into the movement.

What kinds of people should be targeted to build a core group of supporters in the initial group?
What kind of benefits should the hopefuls be teased and prodded with to make the group look more glamorous and formidable?
