Anyone every been to any good ones? I personally haven't but only because of geographical difficulties.

I hear Milwaukee Metalfest is awesome, and it probably is, because of the sheer size and the number of great bands who have attended in the past. At over 200 bands for 50 bucks, it easily beats the shit out of Ozzfest's gayness, overpriced shittiness, and overall lack of talented bands.

Everyone already knows about Hellfest in NJ.

I always wanted to go to the San Antonio Black Metalfest that Absu was a big player in, but I think it flopped and they stopped having them. Texas is a big place for black metal. Wheres My Skin?

Then of course is the mother of all things metal: Wacken Open Air. Happening in 41 days. Everyone from Accept through Marduk to Zyklon are already confirmed.

I have actually never been to a concert
ever.

But Live 8 is coming to Barry, which isn't that far from Toronto, so I will probably go to that.

I've only been to 2 Flogging Molly concerts. The one at the Warped Tour last year sucked ass though. Although, Anti-Flag sound a lot better live then they do recorded.

Agrred that Ozzfest sucks, for the most part. Ozzfest '03 was a-fucking-mazing, personally. I'm not a Manson/Korn fan, but they both put on excellent shows. I mean, the crowning achievement was when Manson stuck a microphone up a girl's ass, then started singing from it.

My favourite band was there, as well...Cradle of Filth. I got to meet the band, talk to them, get their autographs, and watch Dani drunkenly tap-dance on a flattened water bottle. Their acrobat was amazing. And the belt sander he pressed into the acrobat's chest, used to shoot sparks into the crowd, was a nice touch, if I say so myself.

But then, that's just my thing. It was overpriced...I just kept refilling a bottle from the bathroom sinks, and dousing myself every half hour so I wouldn't pass out.

Lollapalooza, When you first enter there is a Marine recruiting booth, which wasn't forceful or anything. They had kids come up and try doing chin ups and gave out things for those who could do 20 and right across from that was a big stand selling marijuana flavored lollipops. As you got deeper into the place you realized that there was some type of hemp store every 20 feet.

Hemp hacky-sacs are very good and broken in right when you get them by the way. We put down a hat asking for money and made 5 bucks. Security came around and told us we had to stop cause we couldn't solicite.

Everynow and then a group of people came walking by, dressed in some form as dancers, jugglers, you're avergae oddball, etc. As for the show itself, my friends and I spent most of the day outside since the good bands didn't come on till night. We went in for Incubus and as soon as the first song started a heavenly aroma of reefer sweeped the ampitheatre. Audioslave played second to last (before Jane's Addiction) and to hear Chris Cornell looking into the crowd and tell us he smells too much marijuana and the crowd cheering was such a cool moment.

It's such a differnt experience than most concerts, can't wait till it comes around again and hopefull this year they'll have a better bill then last years.

I think the first music festival I went to was Two Tribes in 2002. It was one of the best experiences of my life. There are 4 or 5 different big tops with each having one particular genre of dance music by local and international DJs. It was probably the biggest event the Gold Coast had seen in a while.

Memorable moments include seeing Tiesto, Jen-E, Goldie, Rui Da Silva and Mauro Picotto. I managed to get ripped off buying a t-shirt from some hippies for $25 but I still have said shirt so I guess it ain't so bad.

Friendliest group of people I've ever had the pleasure to be around, more than likely due to the large amount of X getting around the place at the time. I ran into a guy wearing the same shirt as me and it was like running into a long lost relative. I had a crack at fire twirling, danced like no one was watching and collected what seemed like 100 glowsticks.

YES. I remember in 2004 Finntroll was playing with them (my favourite band), Obituary and Candlemass too. Marduk kicks ass too. I wish i could see them live but they never come to town.

I was just at SirenFest down in Coney Island NY on the 16th.

It was a comletely spontaneous thing on my part. I told people that I wanted to go, but didn't hear anything about it. Then, my friend calls me on my house phone and tells me that they're leaving now and I have about 10 minutes to get ready. I grabbed a change of clothes, a sleeping bag, and a Sucrets box full of fine outdoor VT farmgrown weed.

It was the greatest roadtrip... EVER. There was an energy in the air that day that was just so intense and unlike anything I've ever felt. Part of the show was sponsored by the US Army, and each act would go up on stage and preface their act with something along the lines of, "You guys know not to join those sons of bitches, right?!" Saul Williams made me love rap music again, The Spoons started slow but rocked the hell out of the audience by the end. And then there was that carload of 7 drunk girls who flashed us on the highway, and pulled us off the main drag for a bowl pack in a Wal Mart parking lot.

So yeah, so far this summer's going alright I guess... :D

The other music festival I went to was Big Day Out in 2002. I mainly went to see Prodigy live. I was underwelmed at their performance, however, they were the last group to play on the main stage so I probably shouldn't be too critical. It didn't help that i had some drongo falling asleep on my shoulder every 5 minutes until I verbally abused him.

System of a Down played an intense set and I was impressed with the young fans coming back from the mosh pit with bruises up their entire bodies telling me what an awesome time they had.

The real highlights though, for me at least were the Aussie bands that rocked out big time. Gerling were excellent, Sonicanimation forced me to dance, Magic Dirt and Skulker and Goodshirt were awesome.

40 000+ people also make for a rather interesting crowd. I ran into a lot of people from the Two Tribes event here, most notably a 50 year old hippy woman who dances in a triangle. Strange strange folk.
