What are some better smoke bombs than KNO3 and Sugar?

Like, proper ones that could be realistically employed for something useful.

What blatant hypocrisy.

How many times have you said something that has caused a thread to be derailed?

And enough of the Pseudo-Moderation. You've violated quite a few rules in your time.

And if you have a problem with the moderation on this forum you can take it up via PM to DD, DIzzIE, Stone, Odin_Dax or myself. Simple as that. Or alternatively if you don't like the way the forum is run you no longer have to be a part of it.

If I was going to commit a crime where Smoke Bombs were going to be used I would invest in a large batch of professional Paintball Smoke Grenades. I'd buy them months in advance of any crime, and then I'd split them - 50/50. I'd use half of them for training myself to use them as well as calculating how many I'd need to use.

The other half would be used on the job. The only problem is the Cops would have the remains of the Smoke Grenades and from that they'd be able to find out who sold them to who.

This is when you need improvised smoke devices such as a KNO3/Sugar Smoke 'Bombz'. Chlorine can also be used, but I'm not to sure on other chemicals you need.

KNO3/Sugar Smoke 'Bombz' are all very good for Pyrotechnics and special effects purposes but for any kind of criminal activity where Smoke devices are needed to give you cover they are shit, unless...

You have a lot of them, and the ratios are perfect-o for the amount of Smoke you'll need and you can time to the second when they'll ignite.

Professional paintball ones? What's in them?

.VX - I had to walk across the room to get a copy of 'Gun Mart', where I originally saw the Smoke Grenades advertised. I'm not sure what's in them but I can give you the prices.

Smoke Grenade A - ?9.99 - $18 - "Four minutes of heavy White Smoke to serve as a screen."

Smoke Grenade B - ?3 - $5 - "Creates a short blanket of Smoke."

And...

A 'Stun Grenade' - :saroll: - ?5 - "Four loud bangs."

Not to mention all the other Paintball related Pyrotechnics!

I wouldn't mind buying 'Stun' and the Smoke grenades and combining them together creating a potential diversion, cover and a screen... All perfect for a large crime, such as a Bank Robbery!

Twenty Heavy Smoke Grenades would cost me ?200 and if I was going to be making a profit such as say ?10,000 [I wouldn't rob a bank for 10K btw.] it would be well worth it as I could train myself on how to use and for Calculations sake also.

And the other ten I didn't use combined with other Pyrotechnic effects would be plentiful.

Victoria doesn't let that kind of thing through customs. I'd guess it'd be sulfur, sugar and black powder/pyrodex. or something like that.

There are bound to be factories - Even in Aus who make those types of things.

Make inquiries at your local Paintballing centre.

They fall under controlled weapons in Victoria. My local paintballing centre is a bitch to get to by public transport, and I have no money.

I'm not actually planning on using them for anything worth spending out for.

I just wanted to know a more efficient way of producing shitloads of smoke.

It still had nothing to contrubte to the OP so it was derailment, that could have been sorted out via PM.

VX maybe should try to purchase?get someone outside aus to order and send them to you. You have reles in UK?

A professionals one and make some to test.

Seeing how cheap they were.

sorry hard to understand just extremely seedy today.

Once again, this is just theoretical.

ammonium nitrate
water
newspaper

grind AN into a powder
mix with water
soak newspaper
hang to dry
once dry, roll the newspaper very tightly
tie the rolled newspaper(so it stays rolled)
light one end.

If one was to produce an AN Smoke device would a Blow-Torch be a good means of ignition?

yes. or when you are beginning the rolling process, put a small amount of black powder in the center with a fuse leading to it.

The best smoke grenade mixture I have used would be Zinc/KNO3 smoke bombs, they lay down incredible amounts of white smoke at a pretty fast rate. Composition being:

4 KNO3: 6 Zinc
(could be the other way round, been a LONG time since I've tried this composition, try both in small amounts and see what happens)

WARNING, use a sufficiently strong case as it creates a significantly large thrust, MORE SIGNIFICANT WARNING, do not inhale too much smoke as the white smoke generated is actually zinc oxide particles, these can cause zinc poisoning in large amounts. This will require a meal prime to work, if this fails a step up prime will almost guarantee results.

Be safe, have fun.

Cool, thanks.

I think it's always a good idea not to inhale mysterious gasses produced by anything.

Now I have to get some zinc dust just to try this comp out.
Even some militaries use zinc based comps so it seems valid.

Ok .VX paintball smoke grenades are a non-incendiary device so that no fires can start on a paintball field, i'm not sure to as the composition of them, but i'm sure there is a way to figure it out

It may produce smoke but you can get most things to produce smoke if you burn them.

Any ideas on the quantity of smoke produced?

Link?

A couple of years ago, I was working on an SBIR contract for the Marine Corps to design and develop a new smoke grenade and a new comp for it. I came up with a configureation that, with the proper mix, will have twice as long a duration, plus you could hold it in your hand for the first half of the burn, which could prove handy in certain situations.

I also came up with a couple of comps that were very promising. One used NH4ClO4 and Hexamine, primarily. There were other ingredients that are essential to the stoichiometry of the reaction. Don't try it with just the above-mentioned ingredients or you might have some ugly products to deal with (like HCN, for starters). Another used Zinc Peroxide and another metallic compound.

If you're going to use a comp with Zn in it, be wary of freshly formed ZnO. A couple of good whiffs will induce metal fume fever, and that's some miserable shit. If you get a little in your mouth/nose and it tastes or smells pungently sour, get away from it!

I'm not posting the exact formulations, because we haven't filed our patent applications yet. (Still busy stacking the claims.)

After all that work, the jarheads decided they'd just keep the M-18 configuration with a new comp. And after another engineer & I had come up with about a dozen mixes, we didn't mind getting paid for developing stuff that was never put to use, but what was finally selected just about drove us nuts.

KNO3 & Sugar. Thatr's right, the old, grade school "smoke bomb." How fucking embarrassing is that? (There was also some Teflon powder in it, for IR obscuration, but still!!!)

Ah sure...

WE find that a KNO3 Sugar mix, WITH WAX, is damn fine.

We mix up 60:40 KNO3:Sugar, then add it to equal mass of Wax, and add a 'pinch' of BP per 100g. Melt the wax, stir like mad. Pour into sections of PVC piping with a wax 'plug', add a 'well' to fill with BP and fuse it... Add a pull-ring ignitor system and BOOM. Smoke grenade... These things kick ass in forests and outdoor-urban areas (think urban wasteland). Clearing 'foxholes' and Prefabs/Shipping Containers with these and flashbangs was never so easy...

Another, non pyro one, involves an airsoft 'Thunder-B' CO2 powered 'Distraction grenade'. Fill em up with flour... That provides a small 'Cloud' that goes away fast.

I am working on a fun one - ground up dust of IR-Pass Only Filter material, dispersed. For indoor use. A kilo of this would make vision impossible... Unless you have NVG! This gives you, who have NVG, an advantage. Perhaps IR-Blocking filter can be used to 'inert' the NVD wearers?

WE are now trying a KNO3:Wax mix but it sometimes never works right.

I've been pretty ill in the past because I inhaled some Zinc fumes from Zinc Solder. I only got a small whiff of it and I was sick as shit for the rest of the day.

Aside from the KNO3+Sugar mix, I have also had fairly good success with the ammonium nitrate and newspaper method. It's a bit "kewl" but it actually does a pretty good job when done right. Downside to that method is you need quite a lot of the stuff for any meaningful smokescreening.

One such "bomb" I made inside a Pringles can with lots of tightly coiled up newspaper which had been soaked in the nitrate. It used a standard visco fuse terminated in a blob of pyro candy but there's no reason you couldn't build a striker or light it electrically. Unfortuately, it was FUCKING MASSIVE, but I built it big on purpose. If you're only going to build one of something, and it's not designed to explode, why not build big? :D

Yeah man, when I was a kid I used to melt solder and stuff in flower-pot crucibles for fun (yeah, I was a weird kid) and I suddenly got sick as hell. But it went away soon after I got back into good air, I must not have gotten a big dose. That was the last time I ever did that.

Interestingly enough it feels almost euphoric when you first inhale it, wanting you to inhale more. Then five minutes later you feel like shit.
