I've never seen a store do that. They will never do it if they ask for a signature. I know many people in retail and none of them have done it. I survey them every so often to see if they've implemented any new security tech. lately. Useful info sometimes.

No the code is to prove you actually have the plastic. It would be pointless.

Thats not true in British Columbia. Never have I seen or heard of anything other than swipe, code and signature unless it was a double balance type scenario where cash was also needed in advance and the card holder's name was put into the system to take the card from 'gift' status to committed ownership.
