I think we should have one for everything from Physics, to Anatomy, to Global Warming. Excluding Drugs and Explosives of coarse.

Whaddaya-think, eh?

Good. Anyone else?

I'd love it, but I'd question the responsibility of most board members to conduct themselves appropriately in an academic way. Otherwise, if it's just a bunch of back-and-forth debate on science without facts and sources, then what's the point?

If it was moderated well and ground rules were laid down and enforced I don't see a problem.

I think you two can manage that.

(The great thing about this is that no-one can be opposed to it)

It's not my board, but I'll moderate it to the best of my abilities with the blessings of DD, Stone, Diz and Thor. If the board decides to have a science forum, great! :bigok:

Usually boards with numerous topics spanning numerous things have the habit to die.
And boards that concentrate around a small niche usually survive longer.

I'd say that rorta's niche is illegal activity, not science.
If too many themes and subjects are introduced members cluster around the specific sub-forums.
With large boards with +500 active members this is not a problem, but on smaller ones it is. I know that you don't like totse too much, it is a good example, they have numerous subjects and numerous subboards. But because they have such a large user base, there is enough people to fill those subforums.
I personally read only the "Laboratory Tips" board on totse.

It may be that Rortas 'niche' is illegal activity but sometimes discussion in that particular area dries up and without the General Board and the various other boards on the discussion of philosophy, politics, pictures, movies and music among the other boards I think Rorta would be dry constantly.

I've searched for breeder reactors and have come up short of instructions on building one however ill continue to look if you promise to up an atomic sciences section.

If a sciences board was introduced I would hope it would be one large board. If the board was used regularly and had a large variety of topics that might mean we have to create sections like the Q&A section of the NE board.

I agree with Micro. We have a general forum anyway.

You might be best off putting it to them personally in a PM in case they miss this thread.

Whatever hapened to this?

I can't change my mind? I think it'd be great to have, but Micro raised goods points to convince me otherwise. With our low active numbers, it's not the right time to expand. It's really up to the admins, but I think their niche has been clearly define. As I've pointed out, we have a general board.

People don't come here for science.

I meant why'd you change you mind. I think that it would get more activity than Food & Drink, and Physical & Sexual. The worst that could happen is that no one would post there, and it would be virtually empty, which still wouldn't do any damage. Chances are, the stuff we discuss in a Sciences forum would be relevant to crime anyway.

I've been itching for a good physics discussion!

I'm for this idea - This is the stuff that users can never pick which board to put it on.

What harm could be done?

I think I explained why well enough.

I'd be more inclined to side with you and DJ if the number of science based threads in the general forum were high. You and others in support of a science forum aren't really helping your case, in my opinion, just by wishing for a forum but not posting. I think a few trial posts is a more than reasonable request.

I'll state it again, this isn't my board, but I will moderate it in any capacity the admins wish. The fact that Food & Drink isn't popular has nothing to do with my role as a mod.

Yeah, I know that you explained yourself. It just seemed to me that you were making it out that I was questioning your 'right to change your mind'. It doesn't matter anymore, anyway.

Well then, I declare that all in favour of a Sciences forum make atleast one scientific thread!

I know, and I'm not saying Food and Drink's lack of popularity is because of your modding ability ...

I've been itching for a good physics discussion!

Start a thread about it in the General forum then.

Th0r, I don't think a general sciences thread would be a good idea. If there's something that you think would make for a good discussion, then give it it's own thread in the General forum. If my plan works, then they'll all get moved into a Sciences forum one day.

Rorta always did have a science forum, way back to the proboard days. It just wasn't set to active, as it didn't get much traffic. Ive opened it back up.

Just think of the things we could achieve with this newly discovered power! Why, we could demand an entire furom devoted to LOLcats if we saw fit.

Wait, on second thoughts, that's a horrible idea.

LOLcats sucks.

How about an entire forum dedicated to why LOLcats sucks?

:P

While I'm making demands I figured that I'd bring to light that Poetry and 'The Written Word' are in two seperate forums. I say that we have an Arts forum and an Entertainment forum.

(This power is going to my head)

(This power is going to my head)

What power?

Art is entertainment, to some, and entertainment is art. Either way, having them together is perfectly okay in a lot of minds. Look at Trivial Pursuit! Filmmaking is an art but most consider it entertainment. Singing, art. Plays, art. TV, art. Ice skating, graceful. So there are a lot of examples where my first sentence makes sense.

The power to make Rorta history through consensus.

In an Arts forum we would discuss something in an Artistic sense. In an Entertainment forum we would discuss the same thing without going into it too much, ie; the difference between a discussion of poetry and the song game.

I think it's fine the way it is. It's not as though that forum is on the rage. Any other ideas?
