SWIM=Someone Who Isn't Me (urban dictionary might help explain any other terms).
In my opinion, its a completely fucking redundant term, because SWIM is only ever used as a substitute for "I". There's nothing stopping a prosecutor from taking advantage of this.

Not another one of these threads ...
Sometimes SWIM can also mean Someone Who I Met. Basically, SWIM is pointless.

It doesn't make a difference since there are at least three other threads.

Why do people bother writing in 3rd person anyway? It's not like you actually are gonna get prosecuted for what you post on an online forum such as this...
SWIM wants to know the answer to this question.

SWIM wants to know the answer to this question.
People I know personally have been arrested because of what they've written on various websites.
Also I've read about people on forums being arrested for what they have written.

Does this mean that when ever I write something incriminating I should write as SWIM?
You could always say that it was a lie or joke.

That's not what I'm saying.
If you post details of a crime you were responsible for and you were arrested because of it but you used SWIM in the post and that was your defence, the prosecution could use the fact that using the term SWIM is widely accepted as meaning you were responsible for the crime in question.
Do you understand what I mean?

Ok I get it now. This is practically saying that writing as SWIM is useless and a waste of time. Maybe writing something "from a friend", like "my friend has done this blah, blah, blah" would be a better defence?

I really don't think any of it matters. If you have any kind of a serious felony, and by some stroke of luck the authorities find posts by you, then "SWIM" won't be a safeguard. Besides, do one serious crime, and why not check all internet records to match you up with more crimes?

Were they arrested simply because their crimes were recognised online? If so, do you know how their comments were traced back to them? I'd imagine in most cases that jurisdiction would stop most cops from taking action.
