I believe that people should not just follow along with what society deems as right or wrong, but should decide for themselves. Morality is given to us by society and the media instead of us creating our own morals through life experiences. This makes it seem like society is just a bunch of brain washed individuals who do what they are told and are incapable of making decisions themselves. If people made their own choices instead of following everyone else, the holocaust most likely would have never happened. I also believe that all human actions are based on some degree of greed. This does not mean that they are evil people, as evil is once again only a matter of opinion and its impossible to say what is good and evil if we are brainwashed with fake ideals from the media. Even when you do something nice, there is greed involved. You buy a girl flowers, you want her to like you. You give away 100 dollars, you want people to like you. You donate an organ so a loved one will live, because you are afraid they will pass away and you will be sad. Every single thing that a human can do can be said to have some degree of greed involved, otherwise they probably would not do it in the first place. Why buy a girl flowers if you do not like her? The answer would be just to be nice, but that never happens, as again its part of our nature to be greedy and want to conserve money in order to purchase more meaningless material goods. Along with morality being a matter of opinion on what is right or wrong, I feel that good and evil are simply points of views. Most people are following along with what society tells them what is right or wrong, and they believe they are the angelic people doing the right thing to better the world. From their points of view, someone doing something opposite or not doing it would be ?evil? which leads me to believe that good and evil and a perspective.

Not all people don't. Hell, most people don't. Just look at politics within the same party! Look at the civil rights movement too.
Morality is given to us by society and the media instead of us creating our own morals through life experiences.
That's partially true. Morality is given to us by society, yes, but there are instances when we decide for ourselves. The media, on the other hand, counters many morals -- minimalizing death, sex, crime; rather, glorifying them.
This makes it seem like society is just a bunch of brain washed individuals who do what they are told and are incapable of making decisions themselves.
You must be young.

Not true. Germany was on its knees. The people looked for a hope wherever they could find it. Once Hitler was in office, he did everything he could to gain power. We all know he did.
I also believe that all human actions are based on some degree of greed. This does not mean that they are evil people, as evil is once again only a matter of opinion and its impossible to say what is good and evil if we are brainwashed with fake ideals from the media.
I can't tell if stealing is wrong. I also can't tell if murder is wrong. Damn the media!

People donate their organs after death all the time without compensation to their estate. My dad buys flowers for people all the time "just to be nice." Maybe you're the brainwashed one, Nem. :werd:
People conserve money for various reasons -- to have something for unplanned scenarios, medical, bills, travel, visiting family, putting kids through college, retirement funds so they don't have to work at 70.

I think you're young. I think you're ignorant of the world. I think you're at that point where you're developing yourself in conflict with the world as you thought it was, not as it is. It's all good, totally not an insult. Most of us go through that stage. We move from our egocentric teens years, grow, learn the world is more complicated than it is, it's not all black and white.
I'll agree, the opposite of good is bad, but society can mostly agree which is good and which is bad. Learn from the centuries of experience. Human nature doesn't change!
