One of my favorite games of all time, I have played it at least 5 times all the way through. Each time you replay it there is something new to do, something different to find, something funny to notice. Anyone ever played this, or any of the MGS series? This deffinetly kicks MGS2's ass, the story was weak and the characters (except for snake whom you only got to use in VR and the first part of the game) sucked.

All Metal Gear games sucked except for Metal Gear Solid.

:o

Im a big fan of the Metal Gear series... but I was slightly dissapointed in Snake Eater. It didn't live up to the hype in the slightest. The original Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 still owns both the Playstation2 releases (Im not counting the two versions of MGS2 seperately, as that was a bad mistake by Hideo and it shouldn't have happened! I still have both copies on my shelf though.)

I only had MGS2:Substance...I don't think 3 lived up to the hype either but its still damn good, and MGS1 is still one of the best games I've ever played. The thing I liked about 3 is the survival and the camo stuff, that really set it apart from any other game.

The first MGS is definitely the best.

I don't know how they managed it, but Konami made a stealth game - which I thought were inherantly good - with a ruff n tuff character - " " - and made it suck.

Snake Eater isn't even a fucking stealth game. You can not sneak about with that overhead camera. Bullshiza.

Aaaaahhhh shit, you've gone and done it now.

You had to bring it up. You had to bring up my one complete favorite video games ever. Now I'll never shut up about it.

I got MGS when it came out in 1998, and was instantly hooked. To me, it always seemed that the best games tried to imitate movies, and here was a game that finally did that. It had great gameplay, with stealth and whatnot being the order of the day. The fact that it had the most engaging storyline I'd come across didn't hurt either. Jesus Christ people, this story puts many movies to shame! It had just the right mix of weird sci-fi fantasy, arcadey, artificial moments and realistic stealth secret agent stuff. It tackled complex issues like genotype effects on phenotype, and nuclear disarmament. Absolutely fantastic, and a permanent classic. I'm probably going to be showing it to my kids one day.

MGS2 was pretty much a disapointment. Too much subplot. Too little common goddamn sense. I mean, Liquid/Ocelot?! WTF is that supposed to be anyway?! It had some great moments, but when I totaled it all up, it just wasn't the game it could've...no...should've been. And so I sulk for 3 more years...

MGS3 IMHO is Hideo Kojima's way of saying "sorry about that last one guys..." He wasn't going to be involved in it at first, but if you play through the game, you can almost detect in the gameplay the exact moment when Kojima got pissed at the direction the game was going and got personally involved again. AFAIK, it's somewhere between the mangrove forest, and Graininy Gorki. And while I agree with blaksun that it's much harder to play the game stealthily with the finnicky camera system, I respond with: Who cares? Certainly not me. While I miss the stealth gameplay of MGS, the combat sequences in 3 are just so... amazing. Between the weapons effects, and the enemy AI, I've never had a game give me a good firefight so consistently as 3 has done. Besides, it's not like stealth is impossible, it just means that you have to be careful, and tranquilize/chokehold as appropriate. It's a different game from MGS, and you have to play it as such.

There are also ones to turn off the alert, drop grenades on enemies in the area and if you call some people in weird situations you get funny responses...call sigint from in a box :D.

My fav: Call Para-Medic about the glowing mushrooms, then eat them. When you call her back it's one of the funniest moments in the game.

I would have to second most of you guys, that MGS was by far the best and is a very kick ass game. MGS2 was good for the VR but the story was lame.. although any one who was a fan still played it through. I think it got very very dumb when the general guy, the man you took orders from, turned into that alien thing, or something... That was a very fucked moment. Then MGS3 was kick ass and it is fun, but i had thought it was gonna be better. It still kicked ass though, more than san andreas, but don't get me started on that. In the end, MGS kicked the most ass. nuff' said

KBK, i think i still have your MGS2 at my house if you want it back

No you can keep it, I know you've got it if I wanted it back I'd ask...I agree when the commander guy turned out to be a computer or whatever, that was fucking stupid. I don't know what Kojima was thinking. Have you guys heard that MGS4 is coming out for PS3? It was one of the games to be previewed at E3.

Uhh... he didn't turn into a computer or alien or anything, didn't you pay attention to what the game was telling you? He was a computer the whole time... weren't you listening?

Yea i realize he was a computer the whole time. I just worded it wrong, sorry. I was speaking of the point in the game when you find out that he is a computer of whatever.

How else could the storyline have went?

Its been awile so i don't really remember, but i really think that Hideo could have come up with something better than that. It takes you out of the game when he tells you "turn the game off, turn the game off!" i mean WTF :?

I aslo knew that he was a computer, and ws referring to the part where it tells you he is one. The story could have just been, no Raiden, just Snake, then the game would be good :D.

I'll second that, i'm not for playing as a she-male character .

When I first played MGS2 the day it came out, it was in a 22 hour marathon session with no sleep, food, or bathroom breaks. I charged all the way through the game, and when I got to that point, my sense of reality was so distorted that when I got to the part where Campbell tells you to turn the game off I thought he was speaking to ME. I freaked, ripped the power cord of my (rental at the time) PS2 out of the wall, ran upstairs, and shivered in bed for about an hour before passing out. And people wonder why I have so much fun with psychadelic drugs. :P

Kojima is the all time grandmaster of fucking with the heads of his hardcore fanbase like me. Respect.

I just saw an interview with Hideo Kojima and he said that for #4, they are removing alot of the stealth and making it more of an action game. He wants the players to be in the heat of the action all the time. His exact words were "...leaving the player nowhere to hide..."

Metal Gear Solid 3 is an AWESOME game, although i've never played all the way through, but i watched my bro do it like 6 times and i'm working on my own game.
