Considering I want this to be the best forum that it can be I have a question; why all the grammer and spelling Nazism? lol. I could understand being one if a person post an illegible post...but it just seems to me that its some people being bored and then start bitching.

Thoughts, opinions, dirty jokes on the topic? I want your opinions, lets make Rorta a better place.:cool1:

If spelling and grammer are bad I say fair play to the Rorta police. Sieg Heil the RP.

I'm sorry but if you don't know the difference between you're and your then you probably aren't the brightest tool in the shed....

Look at it as an opportunity to improve yourself.

This place doesn't get enough traffic for a misspelled word to go unnoticed.

^ the man's got a point, there's only a handful of active members and then a few random posters and creepers, it's hard to not pick up every error...

It's easier to read a post when it is legible. Even if it is written a little wrong, but if someone comes in and all they see is bullshit written about bullshit they are less likely to stay and contribute.

As sad as it is, OP our actions will affect the lives of many people as the consequences trickle to others down the line(i.e our illiterate childeren, their childeren and so on.)

Well the effects of this evolutionary dulling aren't immediatly obvious, it does matter when you think of the original abbreviations. for example "LOL" OP used this in his post though I doubt he was sincerly laughing out loud. While this doesn't have to do strictly with spelling and grammer it is the begining of a slippery slope.

If you would be kind enough to think back to your posts on various medium even as little as five years ago, now think about how much your style has changed as LOLS, ROFLS, IMHO, AFAIK , and the cascade of bad spelling and grammer you've had to endure has seeped into your brain.

And imagine your magically viewing the internet as it is five years from this day. I am not saying change is a bad thing because the kind of innovations that spawns jargon just isn't. You know if you were pressed you could formulate a response in proper english because you grew up knowing it from the start(in most cases).

I do not support flaming someone who made an intelligent response with occasionally misspelled words, but all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.

Do you really want to end up like idiocracy? Thanks for your time.

Firstly this is in no way relevant to Nonnormative Economics. I've moved the thread to the place it ought to be.

Secondly Rorta is relatively lax on Spelling and Grammer, but seeing some peoples posts it reflects badly as a whole on the community. The rare i/I will go unnoticed as will a small Spelling or punctuation errors, however in the last week in particular I've noticed a decline in the quality of spelling and grammar.

I think a verbal warning on the issue is perfectly acceptable, given the fact there were about seven posts I've had a major problem reading.

Really it's not draconian or fascist in any way considering how relaxed we as a forum are on the subject.

The spelling of children is wrong... so to is
immediately,
sincerely and grammar. Along with some small grammar mistakes.

Moral of the story? Stop trying to look like a smart ass, you will just look like an ass!

That's not cool. He's not being totally hypocritical...

been on this site and read all the comments from start to finish and with no disrespect the only true pro on here is vinnipooh.untill now ha people say on here they doubt that he makes that kind of money i can tell you all now i bet he does without a sweat.im from the uk and have been WORKING for years drive a new bmw and have been all over the world. just got back from the carribean.not trying to brag just if you have the balls and skill and know what you are doing the money is better than most crimes with hardly any jail time not that ive been caught as such yet i say yet its bound to come but as i know the criminal system in the uk that is its worth the risk so people who call vinnipooh are either pissed at what hes making or are like living in ivory towers who havent the balls basically a wannabe so this is just my opinion and respect to vinnipooh and to people who erase other posts show some respect.im not a kid im a grown man so act your age

This is the reason why Grammar and Spelling should be moderately policed... [Within reason.]

Trust me when I say you have seen even the top of the iceberg. I used to be an English tutor, and if we really did have Grammar & Spelling Nazis, I'd be doing nothing but editing! Even I find mistakes in my own posts, but I do know the difference between:

You're, your
They're, there, their
"Alot" and "a lot"
"payed" and "paid"
a comma and a period
etc
etc
etc
etc

We just have to remember that 1) we're not all native speakers of English, and 2) most education systems, especially in the US, don't give a fuck about spelling, grammar or anything else other than a) dumbing down students(for various reasons), b) getting money and c) they simply don't care.

In other words, if a response to a post isn't just about spelling and grammar points, then there's no need to intervene. Like it's been previously said, it's about learning. I've seen entire posts that were really bad, but they're always pointed out.

Niether do I. I've always felt that we should demonstrate our superiority before criticizing others. I was making the point that bar several Spelling mistakes he wasn't a total hypocrite. He didn't come up with any i/I failures or similar failings.

The only reason this exists is people with the need to enlarge their e-penis.
Certain things can be annoying, such as lack of commas, but misspelling of words isn't a big deal 90% of the time. Who cares if someone types "Computar", for example. Everybody knows what I mean

And I'm sure that the lack of full stop at the end of the last paragraph didn't hamper this post's legibility.

But, even though it's not something that should be worried about in small, one off cases, why not turn on the spellcheck on Mozilla?

And if your not using Mozilla, now's a good time to start.
