Distracting the Police

Hi everyone,
This is my first post.

SWIM wants to do a heist on this store in a mall. The store has a big glass front facing the parking lot, however, SWIM knows that there are alot of police in the town, so SWIM wants to have a distraction. SWIM thinks that setting the gym of the high school down the street on fire would distract the police from the burglurary, what do you guys think about this?

A bad idea. Setting the Gym on fire would probably only get your local Fire Department out, as the fire alarm wont be linked to the police. The police would only arrive once they realised it was a case of arson.

Ironically, If somehow you get caught, you'd possibly get a harsher prison sentence for the arson than you would for the robbery.

Also, now that you've posted this on the internet, dont be surprised if people look your way when a high school gym goes up in flames, and a local mall is burglarised.


There are better ways to pull this off than what you suggest. Think.

Remember Columbine?

The shooters tried to start a fire to divert authorities from their attack. It didn't work since within a few minutes one fire truck had put the fire out. One hell of a diversion. :saroll:.

Also if you get caught robbing this store, which by the way carries a high probability since the mall and the parking lot will probably be infested with CCTV cameras.

A better diversion would be to SWAT the Police, if you live in a city or large town this shouldn't be to difficult. Make up a story that would get the Police mobile and heading towards a series of locations. If they're under the impression it's a life or death situation involving several peoples lives they may put any emergency calls about a roberry on hold...

Just a thought.

The lighting of the gym sparked a memory from a couple years ago. A guy needed to make a distraction so he could rob a bank. He decided to call up the 911, and acting as a disgruntled teen said that he was tired of the schools mistreatment and had set explosives in the nearest high schools set to go off 1 hour from the call. This caused chaos as damn near every cop was busy dealing with the "bombs". While the police were away, he acted on it and robbed the bank in a simple shades and hood disguise. By the time the cops got there, he had already cleaned a good 50k and got out of there.

If I am not mistaken, Swating is using some 911 glitch to get the cops to show up at someones house. I think this is a great idea and SWIM might try it, but SWIM does not know how do to that.

Also, the idea about bomb threats is good, SWIM might try that to get the finals screwed over.

Would these work in combination like having bomb threats at 5 high schools and swating some other random places work as a good diversion?

Basically what .VX said. How are you going to access five high schools and place bombs in all of them. It's not Die Hard III, and the police aren't totally stupid.

You don't need to actually place bombs within a school to get the police to search it and evacuate it, one need only make the threat and they have to search it and make sure its bomb free. Should keep them busy for a few hours.......

But as far as i know if a threat is made they have to investigate it.

Wether or not they suspect that it might be a hoax is irrevelant. They will have to shut the school down, evactuate it and search it for the explosives.

Whats going to happen if a bomb goes off in a school and kills hundreds of people, The next day in the paper it says the police received threats but did not act on them. Someones gonna get let go at the least and at the most criminal charges agains the police for not acting. So im pretty sure they act on them regardless.

But i agree that making bomb threats against 5 different Schools is abit over the top, maybe 3 maximum in one go.

Just as many as you can within a(n) X mile radius repending on how populated your town is. If there are five schools within a few miles of each other, then making threats about all of them would be reasonable, but if there's only one school every few miles, then no more than two would be the way to go.

Exactly. I'm not saying one should place bombs, or anything that looks like a bomb in a school. That's simply ridiculous and will get you in a lot more trouble than a robbery charge.

I never said it was going to happen or even probable to happen........

Secoundly they would be expected atleast to have the schools evacuated or atleast warn the school administration who would do it themselves, until such a time that they could search it and give it the all clear , Schools and the Police take bomb threats very seriously.

Multiple bomb threats probably would just slow them down because they couldnt go to each school at once obviously, but they would still act upon all of them eventually and they would certainly warn the school about the threat, the school would logically evacuate soon after. Better safe then sorry.

You know, I've never understood why they call it a glitch. To my knowledge you just spoof your caller ID to show where you want the police to go. It would require a little leg work to remain truly anonymous.

If I were you'd I'd go old school and just box into someones telephone interface behind the building in an alley and make the call. But to be honest I doubt they will send the entire police force for any sort of threat.

Why not focus your distraction on the entity with the least amount of targets you need to distract? You'll come up with something.
