View Full Version : Reviewing Rorta Rules

I made this thread for a couple of reasons. Firstly, this will help everyone understand the rules and their flaws of this forum better. This will promote learning and caring about the health of the forum on which you forum (Rorta). Lastly, this thread was created to review the rules and express our thoughts and opinions about them. If we think they should be changed or adjusted in anyway, thrown out, added, etc. Have fun and let's try our best not to fight about something as mundane as this.
The general rules thread for the forum can be found here:
http://forum.rorta.net/showthread.php?p=33702#post33702
Just incase you missed them here they are:
Thanks in advance to all people who have added to the "Rorta Rules" for allowing me to plagiarize and add your words to my post. ALSO IN ADVANCE, I have shortened some of the rules to generalize and to save space, I have also included assumed rules in my gereralization. Thanks in advance once again for reading and posting. I HAVE NOT ADDED TO THE RULES.
-No bestiality, gay porn, child porn. --> INSTANT BAN!
-No thread derailing. --> It just can't be helped. But, consistently breaking this rule after being warned to stop will result in some sort of punishment. If you need to go off-topic, do so in a new thread and link to it from the thread the derailment was about to take place in.
-No excessive flaming outside of the Flame Lounge. --> Everybody flames, it wouldn't be a BB without it. We are a community and not everybody always see eye to eye. Keep the Flames to the Flame Lounge. Do NOT under any circumstances let flame wars spill onto the main board. This makes not only you, but also the board, look tacky and immature. Remember, we want the board to grow, and for that we need a good image!
-No commercial advertising! --> I and DD pay for this board out of our own pockets. We do not get paid by ads and make absolutely no money from Rorta. If you want to advertise something to make money on our board you ask our permission. NO EXCEPTIONS! Breaking this rule can result in instant banning!
-NO SPAMMING! --> Punishable by INSTANT BAN! --> Spamming includes posting the same thread more than once in different boards; posting incoherent, unintelligible gibberis; etc.
-No leeching! --> If there is a graphic on our site that you are posting on another board or site, save it and upload it somewhere else. Link to it from there. Do not steal our bandwidth for another sites gains. Do NOT leech from other sites on Rorta. Upload the picture somewhere (such as imageshack) else and then link to it from here. It is very easy to catch members breaking this rule, we will catch you and we will take action.
-No plagiarism! --> Do NOT steal others work and claim it is your own. This kind of behaviour will not lead to just a ban on the forum, but an IP ban on the whole site to stop you claiming authorship of material that isn't your work!
-Do NOT post personal information about yourself or anybody else! Again, this rule can result in an Instant Ban!
-Do not post false information or assumptions as gospel, without being prepared to back yourself up or deal with being ripped apart.
-If a moderator or administrator edits/moves/removes a post or thread of yours, do not make a big scene in public. It can be sorted out through PM. First, PM the moderator involved and not the administration. If you still have a problem with moderation contact either Stone, DD or DIzzIE.
-Remember that all staff members are people too! We all have opinions and preferences and this does not reflect on the boards ideals! If you have a problem with a staff member and if that staff member is not abusing his/her power then that's just tough shit.
-Do not double post. There is an edit button for a reason.
-Do not bump old threads unless you have something to contribute. An example of an acceptable bump: 'hey that procedure no longer works like that, here's the new way...' An unacceptable bump: 'lolz, i concur!' If found to be digging up old threads for no reason other than to add your own inane five-word commentary on you will be warned and then banned.
-Your first few posts may not contain links. If you're only here to whore your own site you are not welcome.
-Your thread title must be descriptive. Vague titles akin to 'check out my new idea' or 'look at this cool site' will not be tolerated.

My firsts suggestion would be to make the rules more specific, some of them IMHO are too general, too vague. It makes them harder to understand and allows for many people to break or "bend" the rules easier. Which in turn, makes people who shouldn't have nesseserily been banned before banned.
:crucified <---haha, real funny guys, real funny.

Which ones? I think they're all pretty clear.

if they stay vague that leaves room for personal interpretation by the mods. which can be good or bad, depending on how its used.

I find it ironic how you submit a thread with all the rules in, yet disobey one. This applies for everyone. There's an edit button for a reason.

I think he's certainly looking to undermine the general moderation and administration of the site. If he is, he has a lot to prove. I sure as hell need convincing.

@Odin: I just see just as much as everyone else that many rules are broken. It causes chaos. This is to help people understand them better. I used the wrong wording I think, more rules should be put into place to make things more specific. I'm sorry.
@Th0r: I'm confused, where would this be better placed? Please explain and move, am I not prone to mistakes as everyone else Th0r? Your constructive criticism masked with a very large ego helps. Thank you Th0r. And yes, I'm aware I'm a hypocrite. I think all human beings are. Just about 99.9% IMO. Welcome to the club, and I'm not worried about convincing you my friend. This should be obvious.
@REL0AD: Sure, why wouldn't I? I wouldn't want to be an administrator, but moderator sounds nice. I can only try.
@Torcher: Exactly, I think it leans more towards the bad.
It seems most of my post are taken with a metric ton of doubt, I assure you, I only wish to help you, help Rorta. I'm liking the way this thread is turning, keep your opinions up please.

Could you define double posting? To me, a double post is posting the same thing, or something that resembles the first post, more than once. It agitates me when someone repeats themselves or others instead of reading all the comments.

I'm still unclear as to which rules you think aren't being followed. We're not Nazis and going to ding every small violation, how would that be fun? My ratio for modding:ignoring is about 99:1. If I see something, I usually take care of it. I know Thor is quite active too.

I shouldn't have to quote rules being broken, we see them everyday on this forum. The purpose of this forum in my "Purpose of Rorta" thread, the thought of fun has never came up I think. I wish it could be all fun.

Without details or specifics, I'm clueless as to what your aim of this thread is. To prevent the need to respond to that, let me just say that any member can always message us, the mods/admins, to review/deal with issues.

I'd rather you didn't, I for one am happy with the current mods. They're doing a good job & we don't need a third mod... To many cooks spoil the meth...

You posted it in the General Board. What's the point in having a board dedicated to the running of Rorta if people aren't going to use it?
Other people may make mistakes but your threads constantly seem to be placed in the wrong sections. You also post for no reason in a lot of threads, posting only to add an emoticon or some other garbage or simply to be a sarcy bastard. You also seem to ignore several rules, on a regular basis. Granted we're all hypocritical, you seem to do so more than others.
Also I couldn't care less about your thoughts on my 'Ego' since you've mentioned it several times before. For the record I don't care whether you like me or not. I'm not here to be liked. I'm here to provide information and to moderate. Ciao.

I've got no problem and I'm sure niether Odin or the Admins have any problem with hiccups that result in two posts being made. Just mark them up and we'll delete them. What we don't like is people bumping threads to add insignificant comments. Stone made this clear. There is an edit button for a reason.

I agree with everything you said. However I still see many flaws, just as everyone can with Rorta, if it weren't broken I wouldn't try to fix it. If it were perfect, then how could I, I only want to help. The method of sending mods PM's would be an ideal one. However this isn't an ideal world and I don't think that the current way we are doing things is making this forum as much as it could. It is not fulfulling its potential. I only wish to assist. Thank you Odin.

If you are happy with them or not has little to do with my motivation and my perspective. I'm not saying I want to be only the new mod. I think we need several new mods, in addition to the ones we have. Odin and Th0r do a fine job IMO with what resources they have, however I realize they are only two people people. They can only do so much with their time and I think that maybe Global Modship is too much for two human beings for a forum this size. I agree that yes too many cooks could ruin anything, but couldn't it be possible that there isn't enough cooks in the kitchen?

I'm confused, what do you mean by "if people aren't going to use it." This is a forum its about knowledge, about free information! How could no one use this!? Right now, we are using it to communicate. If I break too many rules for your standards I apologize, but Th0r you must realize I do not break rules on purpose, I am a human being as well, we all make mistakes. I probably just make more mistakes than others. But I learn from them! I'm sorry I have more flaws than you. Truely, sorry. <--THAT is not sarcasm. I also realize I may have done wrong by attacking you publicly about your "'ego'" It is obvious you are not here to be liked, I wish I had your confidence, however not if it stems from false pretenses, from an oversized ego. My attacks on your ego publicly will end, by your request. However, now expect PM's from me on a regular basis.
With all that being said, I apologize for such a rant. I still think this is all caused by a lack of understanding my actual intentions. To which I defend, my intentions are to help this place prosper into something that is spectacular. Something to be marveled, something great like all other great sites from the past. I don't expect to be able to do this on my own, I will need help, lots of it. I extend my hands to all of you, help make this place great! That is how great things are made, with teams of human beings, putting aside their differences and focusing on the things that actually matter. Please, I realize there is no chance of me doing this alone.
