If like me, you hate loading times in games, there is a few things you can do to your XBox!
Get it chipped, replace the 8GB HD with a 200GB HD and copy the discs to the HD in the XBox. Instant loading. If you don't like that idea, you could always replace the DVD drive with a faster one, but your not guaranteed that all games will work. It will also void your warranty and if the XBox is chipped, DO NOT use XBox Live.

Hmm...that's actually a really good idea. I'm surprised I never thought of it before now.
About how much would it cost for me to get a 200 gig hard drive for my X-Box?

You can, of course, gt the HD loader for your trusty old Playstation 2. Works with a lot of games, and cuts loading times so they're barely noticeable.

The HD and optical drive in an XBox are the exact same IDE drives used in PC's. A 200GB would go for about 120euro.
Note: You can also install Linux on a chipped XBox and use it the same as you would a Linux PC.

To be perfectly honest I don't notice loading times in many of my new PS2 games. I just finished God of War about 2 hours ago and the load times were insignificant considering the amount of gameplay between each load screen. Same with Tekken 5. There is basically no loading between fights apart from the various cutscenes.
Burnout 3 may have had longer load times than these two games but I either grab a beer during this free time or switch channels for a bit.
My flatmate has an Xbox but I'm unimpressed with it thus far. Dead or Alive is ok at best, and is fast enough, but it's not what I would call a decent fighting game. V8 Super Cars loads quickly and looks good but not so quick that I would say it was a better game than GT4.
I understand load times can be pretty frustrating but are they really that much of a problem these days? I have issues with some PC game loading times but that's only because I have a poxy video card.

Play Fable on the XBox, and Burnout 3. Takes fucking ages to load. The loading completely breaks up the gameplay in Fable and is very annoying, and in Burnout 3 after doing the Crash's and retrying to get gold takes too fucking long!

Yeah, loading times killed me in Fable. Same with Knights of the Old Republic I and II.

That last level with the gates made me want to kick my Xbox on my desk through my window outside.

Probably not worth it then.

Seeing as how this thread is refering to the original Xbox, and not the Xbox 360, it probably would be worth the instant loading.

Ahh ok. So microsoft sort of detects the illegal mods and destroys thy Xbox? The mod being discussed is legal here in australia. Only playstation1,2 and 3 is illegal.

No what happens is they detect the illegal part and then permanent ban your serial number.

Microsoft will ban you from Live if your console is chipped, but wont if you are using an unnofficial hard drive for the Xbox.
