View Full Version : Security of Rorta

Well, its obvious as to what may have influenced me to post this.
What kind of security measures does rorta take to protect its members?
Any chance of adding certain measures? Perhaps, hide certain forums to people who are not registered. The average person may think rorta is just a general board, but once they sign up they realize there are 'underground' forums. Of course, if they like the atmosphere of the boards, they'll probably be chill with it.
Or just hiding the whole thing to anyone who isn't logged in... thats always an option.
What else could be done?

I'm unsure what else could be done but I do know there are ways to protect members, not complete protection of course but there are simple matters. I'm glad you posted this Antagonist.
Of course, most members will think 'oh it's reload, he's high again', but no, like Antagonist said in another post we need to be less personal treating the board like a social networking site of sorts. I think pretty soon the shit is gonna hit the fan, I'm serious.
Something needs to be done Rorta, deleting my three accounts and all my posts to start with. As I said in another post, it's for everybodys own good. Thumbs up for starting this thread.

I read another old thread that was a poll asking what people thought about making the forums only visible to people who registered and were logged in. There were decent points made against the privacy, the biggest one being that if we make the place private, we wouldn't come up in Google searches, etc, hence less people finding the site, and membership would be little to none.
However, is the mission of the site really to have tens of thousands of members, most of whom would never post, or to have a low number of always-contributing members?
I would think the latter.

I agree with colemancb on this one.

Yes, the a big part of rorta is about having a smaller, more quality community. Most message boards that have a lot of members become crap pretty quick. I've found over the years, that many message boards will turn to shit eventually. The older members get fed up with the n00bs crap, and leave. I've abandoned so many forums because of this reason. Rorta is my favorite, and only current forum.
There are otherways to advertise though, and I think rortans should take it upon themselves to try and recruit people we see worthy of posting here.
There really should be SOMETHING done though, I mean, at least hide the underground forums or something.
and rel0ad, in the meantime, you could always start editing some of your more harmful posts, in case your wish isn't granted. I personally, would remove the thing about 3... I mean, I got a lot of respect for that short guy, but thats me... not LE.
and also, notice how I don't have a sig, or av? Or even a title? My username isn't even something I've used before, and is sort of deceptive about me as a person in RL.

Don't post anything personally identifiable if you don't want to be identified. It's not our responsibility to watch what you say about yourselves. Making it registered only is not going to stop any cops from registering.
Your IP's are protected. If you still feel unsure, use a proxy or TOR.

Even the regs come and go here, so I wouldn't worry about this board turning to shit.

I'd be worried about myself but I trust Rorta. I watch what I say still and only say potentially harmful things if I know I wont be found out for a LONG time and even with that I am very slow to post about.
