Anyone know of any locksmith specifically in Canada that copies keys using the digaram, data, mesurments you get from the tutorial of lockpicking. Don't locksmith's ususally ask for identification and or proof, are there any that do this without questions?

Don't take them the picture just take them the specs and say it was given to you when you got the lock. Use fake id although it won't make much of a difference because it is just a key pattern but you can never be to safe. There are also ways to make it yourself maybe people like dynamo and detc could post how that is possible.

It may seem a bit out of the ordinary to bring measurements in but any decent locksmith should be able to produce a key out of the measurements you bring in. Just don't expect them to be the exact measurements. They'll probably round them to the nearest increment depending on the manufacturer.

Just tell them you have only one copy and because of the traffic of the particular lock, you can't part with the key. Tell them you figured bringing in measurements would suffice.

I take it you know how to get measurements via a caliper or similar device?

how can you give them the specs? i mean do you say the key goes up at this point, and down at this point, how do you describe the teeth?

Key blanks are a known size. You measure the size of the cut key in each of the "lands" - flat parts of the key - and subtract that from the known size of an uncut key. That should give a response in hundreds of an inch - which should correspond to an accepted industry increment, which is usually a whole number to avoid memorizing 3 digit depths, such as .345. They input this number into their code machine and it should produce an accurate key.

In laymen's terms, you take whats known, subtract what is missing, and use that information to produce a key. The machine does the rest.
