There was Revelationx29a, it required an invite to join. It was good because fools were screened and for the most part only good information was shared. I suggest rorta have an Elite Subforum for discussion that is complex, detailed, or should only be shared with a niche group of people with similar knowledge and abilities. It would not be a sign of status, or exclusiveness, just a place for people who know what they are talking about a bit better than others and can discuss without clogged threads. Everyone has to start somewhere so it is not based on anything other than what members contribute. One could be granted access for things like intelligent posts, an invite, useful information and other assets all under moderator discretion.

rorta has no problem of clogged threads, if anything, we need to recruit more people to our community and get more active posters.

I appreciate the suggestion. However, as former mod, I would be very much against such a place. One of the unwritten rules (or maybe it's written somewhere) here on Rorta is freedom of information, and having that information available to all. This forum was never set up to be, as you say, an elite forum.

I think it's quite clear by reading the posts and responses who knows what they're talking about and who isn't. However, one must also remember that there are a few, like Ice, who seem like they know their shit but really do not. Hiders using multiple ID's and posting copied text, for example, are threats to the integrity of the elite group. How many times have people written tutorials but withheld information? I've seen it recently (Iceman again).

Also, how do we decide who is worthy? I'm assuming you mean the admins, but even they have bias (good or bad, but still a bias towards people). I don't think this board gets enough traffic for an elite forum, and the "elites" would just invite friends and we'd have a Rorta within Rorta. Great...

Since it's clear that Iceman is a fraud, I would vehemently be against allowing such a douche into an elite club. I'm sure he reciprocates, but at least I'm not a hider or a plagiarist.

For all other contributing members here, I think most would be against such an idea as well.

thats why Aotu didnt work IMO. everything had to be approved by a mod and it made people nervous about signing up, much less posting

RX was not a invite only elite forum. Information was free, it was a place where topics could be discussed with out the bullshit and influence of kewls. A no bulllshit tolerated, acurate information forum where mature individuals would discuss and debate various "fringe" subjects.

I remember needing to be invited by a member to join.

I am pretty sure that it was invite only when it first started. Probably to get a decent group of members to get the site started. It was not invite only when I joined, but I was reffered there. So maybe I am wrong. But at the end (for now) any one could join.

Maybe Dynamo could clear this up, I know he is now a Rortian.

As far as i know it wasnt, it was just referrals anyone could have joined. Just looked better if a member "invited" you and that member got a referral point.

This has been suggested and shot down in the past. It wont be happening.

Do we honestly want to come across as elitists?

Bad idea I take it back, defeats the purpose of free information. If rorta turns in to totse where every thread is a dump and a flame, I will possibly bring it up for reconsideration.

Actually, IMHO, an invite to an alternate explosive section would be good - that is, an invite to POST there, not to read. Reading would be open access. However I doubt it is possible with the board software. Such a measure would keep the fucking retards from posting yet allow them to learn. Just my $0.02

Using vB you can privatise certain forums and password protect them.

Invites are in a password format.
