Inagural Travel thread: What is the best/most interesting place you've been?

For me, t'would have to be the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. The "New" City is just a load of apartment buildings and whatnot, but the "Old" City is basically a giant stone fort. Inside, there's Europe's oldest Chemist, a load of churches/monasteries and mosques. In one of the museums, there's a rocket hole in the wall, from the civil war back in the 90's. Some damn epic restaurants, that serve up a mean meat platter, piss cheap shops and a nice aquarium.
While there, I got a boat out to this island about half a mile of the coast, where there was this old manor house and a deserted nudist beach. Walking around, there was a beautiful little lake joined to the sea through a system of caves.

I've been to some pretty interesting places in my time, so I'm not sure I could name a definitive one, but I could list a few.

The Normandy Beaches and the Battlefields of the Somme. The beaches of WWII are just fascinating anyway, but I have never been to anywhere that has arisen as much emotion as the latter. When you see miles of trenches in front of you coupled with hundreds of graves to your right you realise the scale and shocking loss of life.

Reykjavik, Iceland. A tad boring, but the architechture is fascinating and its always nice to go somewhere different.

Another thing: Barcelona. the night before I was gonna fly home, I took a walk down La Ramba, which is the main thoroughfare and the red light district, with a view to picking up a €10 hooker. Being 13 at the time, I was thoroughly scared shitless by the cheapest, fattest, blackest hooker on the street. Piss scary, bro.

I've been to so many places that I love and find interesting. As far as interesting goes, I really can't tell what you mean by that. Fascinating or lots to do?

I really loved Montenegro. Driving from the border of Croatia, down the coast and winding my way around the bay on a two-lane road was only the beginning of an amazing journey. I found the road to the capital, but it rose sharply along this mountain road, maybe 1,000 meters in ten minutes, making 180 turns over twenty times and finally reaching the top at dusk, with a small valley over the summit. The town there was very small and had lots of cows. I was a little worried when I reached the end of the valley and made my way down the mountains on the other side... There was no one to be seen, and I was running out of gas. I had to coast down the hills without an engine just to make sure I could make the next town. It was a gorgeous scene of green shrubs and trees among rock outcroppings of gray. The road had no lane dividing paint, but it didn't matter. It was unforgettable!

I've probably been driven through it many times, going down to England. I was in the Hebrides.

Yeah, Melbourne suburbs. It's quite depressing when I think about it.

Just got back from Amsterdam. The place is great, but over-hyped to fuck.

Schipol is exactly like the synonym of Anus which is rhymes with. Not quite as bad as British airports but its still shit. I'm glad I went before the ban on foreigners though.
