View Full Version : Why does Rorta not have as many "active members" as other Underground Sites?

I have noticed that on Rorta, there are much less active Members than on other sites that i have browsed, to the point where we have about 20 "regulars" or so who post consitently while other sites have much more. We do have the odd newbie posting for a while, but they always leave soon after joining.

Other sites like Bombshock and Zoklet have a much broader pool of "regulars".

I don't understand it really.

Why do you guys think about this and what can we/should we change about Rorta so as to attact more (intellegent) members.

How do you think we can fix this.

Rorta is way different for zoklet and i kind of like it that way.

I don't want Rorta to be like zoklet, i was just comparing the amount of members they have to this.

I checked out Zoklet for the second time today just to see what it was all about. There isn't anything special going on there. They have a huge amount of forums without focus, which seem to be contributed to mostly by teens who don't know shit. Lots of dumb threads and questions, that's Zoklet. Their travel section especially is horrible.

I don't visit other sites, but I have strayed to BS a few times recently. Nothing special there to get me to register.

Well, i realise Zoklet like its predecesor site Totse, is a very aimless forum but they have lots of Members who post actively, same with Bombshock.

If you ask me the posts on Bombshock are not that bad although you do get lots of 14 year old kids on there .

What i would like to know is what changes we can possibly make to Rorta to increase our member base.

Perhaps other underground sites have lessons that we can learn from.

One suggestion , is to have a main page which illustrates what this site is about etc, much like this site does: http://www.dreamviews.com/

I remember rorta used to have a mainpage with a picture of a guy spraying a body deoderant flamthrower on his head with the caption "I love Teh Rorta".

We could use another such mainpage except this time more serious perhaps.

Zoklet probably took 95% of Totse's active members and will probably take in more as people who find out about a now non-existent Totse will head over there. Besides we don't want that many members and that amount of retardation.

We lost quite a few regulars when the .com dissappeared.

I don't think we need a main page anymore. If we get one, great. If not, no loss. The board is more than enough to handle links, files and photos.

The buds on a table spelling RORTA was good.

But Bombshock and z0klet all have ship loads of k3wls .

I think we could have quite alot of members without thet site itself degrading to a zokletesque level of retardation...It would just take a dedicated team of moderators to keep it from sliding.

We still have the problem of attracting new members though.

I think we just need to keep the flaming low, and the English level high (unless you're a non-native speaker). Let's face it, that stuff drives people away. English is a reflection of intelligence to strangers, whether one likes it or not.

As mod, I've been starting new threads recently to help keep Rorta fresh. I think there are a few more steps, but the board has been awesome lately. If we keep it up, get the new look fairly soon, we'll be ready to go and grab people.

Until then, just spread the word on other boards, or put Rorta in your signatures.

I think a small community can be a godsend at times. You know (mostly) everyone and vice versa, so you know if you can trust the information you see before you.

It could be a god send but it also sucks to see the same threads everyday. It would be nice to open the forum and see 10 - 20 new posts.

This might sound weird but i feel sometimes that trolls make forums. I mean glider trolled and he has like 15 posts in his thread. I am also really high right now.

I prefere a small community. Yes there may not be 10-20 new posts each day but there is alway posts that are worth reading and reliable. There is Less bullshit with a small community and thankfully less trolls with nothing to offer but annoyance.

I'm trying to do my part, Laugh... Haven't seen too many responses to my topics, but I think everyone is most interested in scams and ripoffs, while I'm more interested in working systems, if you understand the difference.

I hear you about the main page. There will be a new one. I've been making lots of promises for years now, but it is being worked on, as staff members who've seen the work in progress can testify.

Unfortunately paid work has to come first, as do my family. I wish I could spend more time on rorta, but like at the moment I'm getting paid to build an ecommerce site selling musical instruments. Not as interesting as working on rorta, but it keeps my son fed and petrol in my car...

Oh, and as for a small regular member count... Trolls usually don't last long, nor do kewls who follow the herd, which is our difference to other underground sites. We have a varied but interesting memberbase which I for one do like.

ive been seeing a lot of people posting the letters QFT lately...and i think this is one time where it's needed. patience is certainly a virtue, though i know the patience on our parts and dedication on your part will be greatly worth the wait.

Bombshock is not longer any good in my opinion. Reason i aint been posting is because i just lost insterest in the site.

I guess its also a little bit about that if you want to do somethin you got to learn by doing it. I dont know. If you really out there doin what you say you doin you know what im talkin about i guess.

P.S. What happened to revelation?

On a positive note, i think im noticing a surge in members on Rorta at the moment.

On the whole i agree with most of the replies, i didnt appreciate the fact that we have a really good member base and have really good discussions while other sites that have more members dont usually have these.

And they are infested with 14 year olds and trolls for the most part.

I guess one of the things is, people get bored with online forums, or they don't have the time to visit on a regular basis and then lose track of everything. I know this has happened to me before, being a regular on a number of forums and moderating others all at the same time. If you don't visit one for a while, lose track of everything, then you are more likely to stop visiting that site than catch up.

The difference was the likes of totse, where you didn't need to keep track as 90% of the memberbase were just there to take the piss, myself included. Thats what sets us and a lot of other forums away from those with the huge memberbase.
