Does anyone remember old runescape when you use to sit and trade people slowly make a profit by merchanting? While I wanted to do that recently and I tried to go back to it only to find they totally messed up the whole system buy putting in a auctioneer and even going as far as a trade limit >.<
So basically what im looking for is a mmo that has an trade based economy(with no type of game wide auction system). I tried using friendly google but to no avail, kept getting trade in your old used games for results. So if you know of a game like this please let me know ill be very grateful.

Diablo 2 was pretty good for the online merchanting, still a lot of "real life" money to be made in it too if you know the right sites to go to... the only problem is the ladder system, it's basically a system that resets every august so new players have a chance to get their names on the leaderboards...because of the the prices for things have a consistantly shrinking level from about december to the next august...
other than that i aint got a clue...

That's why non ladder is so much better.

non ladder is fuckin retarded, the game gets boring fast enough when you have a goal to acheive... non ladder takes away the only goal you have...

Not really, I had more fun on that then ladder.

depends on the person i guess, if you're in it for just purely fuckin around then NL is the way to go but if you want some set goals to attain then ladder all the way...
"open" or whatever it was called was pretty fun too, being able to use the single player chars online and having huge battles with hacked chars was wicked

Hacking was fun, but somehow my invulnerability didn't work.

Ahh runscape "classic" i wasted a year on that. Easy to scam in that version and make millions to sell on ebay.
Only thing i have found is WoW that i got hooked into.
Not one much for computer games anymore though, more PS2 games.

I loved runescape, many hours spent selling lobsters, cow hides, and leather.
From what you described, I think you'd enjoy Wurm Online (google it). It's an entirely player based economy, lots of trading, no action houses. I like it.
Pro's: MASSIVE, ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE open world, think Oblivion but much larger. Player run economy, every item and building except for the special holiday gifts and starter tools are completely player made. Remember that massive world I mentioned? Well grab a shovel and a pickaxe and you can terraform the crap out of it. Open world + PVP = awesome.
Con's: While the lead developer won't admit it, it's still a paid beta. The graphics and animations suck. It can be extremely tedious, but since you liked runescape that shouldn't be too much of an issue. The community is smallish, so they can get rather dramatic.
All in all, I love the game, even though I've "quit" it several times.

Eve has the most crazy market system of any game ever made.
The stakes are extremely high too. One mistake can lose months worth of work. In Eve, the tears are real. The shouting and screaming of obscenities are also real.

yeah...
eve is what you're looking for probably.
the game is so good i don't play it, it would instantly become an obsession and take all my time away. more addictive then X-Com back in the day... well, no, nothing will ever be worse then x-com. holy shit, now i have an itching to play x-com.

Depending on your taste in games you might want to take a look at www.sociolotron.com. If you are looking for fancy graphics then this is not the game for you however the gameplay is great. Lots of crafting, trading if that is what you are looking for but far darker themes are available if that is how you choose to play. Only game i hve ever played where rape, murder, torture and theft are acceptable!
To quote their website.....
Sociolotron features strong adult content, language, and graphics. An adult game play you don't have anywhere else: No censorship of your game play, except for legal reasons. Game elements that enable you to eliminate monsters (yes we DO have monster bashing also), adult game elements that enable you to blackmail your fellow players, eliminate them, have sex, live out your darkest fantasies, and even establish a lasting dynasty. PvP is a reality in this adult game and you must be prepared to pass on your belongings to a worthy heir!

Through a friend - then played it for about a year. Lost a LOT of hours on that one back in the day.

It sounds excellent, but I'm below the age limit by 7 years xD
Not that that's stopped me before, but it just might be more trouble than it's worth for me this time. If you want to lose some more hours, I'd still recommend Wurm Online.
