Hello everyone,
I just wanted to tell all our UK members about BTYahoo Broadband. I have been using these guys for my broadband for over a year now and they are incredibly fast and reliable. They offer webspace and a number of POP3 e-mail addresses (10, I think) and all that other shite which you would expect from your ISP... but they honestly do seem genuinely interested in keeping current customers happy, something which other companies seem to forget about while concentrating on new customers.

Since I joined they have doubled the line speed at no exra cost, so long as your phone line can handle it. Unfortunately, mine cannot handle 2MB/s as of yet, but they are continually updating their hardware and mine should be ready soon, and just today I got an e-mail telling me that I can download another 10 gigs a month... why? Cos they like me, I guess.

I pay 30quid a month for my service, so it's not cheap, but if you're interested in getting broadband and don't know where to look, BTYahoo have never let me down.

I pay 48euro pm (roughly ?24). I got free installation, and my broadband is 2Mb up and down with 24:1 contention and no cap. It's also wireless so no messing about with phonelines and shit. I use Irish Broadband.

Is it just me or have you edited your post?

That post of mine is quite dated now. That Irish Broadband crap... Well, after a month or so the speeds dropped to below dial-up speeds. After about 2 months of being given the run around by the company I canceled the direct debit and sent them an email stating that under their terms of service I am entitled to cancel because they are in breach of contract by not providing the service that is being paid for. They kept sending bill after bill. During this I had taken down their antenna and taken it to their office in my city. I was told to take it away again and someone would be sent to collect it because the office here doesn't deal with equipment. A month later no there was no collection so I put it up on eBay and sold it. Then about 6 months later, while still receiving bills and outstanding balance statements of over a grand, I got letters from a debt collection agency threatening court action, etc. I sent them a copy of the email I had sent Irish Broadband about a year previously and never heard form them again. I am not the only person to have that problem. Many, many people are sucked in by IBB advertising and have speeds comparable to dial-up at best and practically non-existent tech support and customer service. Then they cancel and IBB keep sending bills and threaten court action if no paid. It's a fucking scam.

At the moment I have eircom 2Mb/256Kb. It's slow compared to whats available in the city, but it's cheap but it's the fastest I can get in my area as I now live in the countryside. My main problem is that eircom throttle bittorrent traffic so I never get good speeds. I've tried ssh but that makes it slower.

Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange whatever there called is the best in my opinion. Good speeds for good prices. Numerous emails and a free phone line withe free calls to landlines.
