View Full Version : The Triple Filter Test (And its relevance to the forum.))

Recently someone told me about Socrates, the Greek philosopher who allegedly designed the a test known as the triple filter test.

Couldn't help thinking it might hold some ground here.

XxX

There are three filters.

First is the filter of truth.

Second is the filter of good.

Third is the filter of usefulness.

Re-adjusted to the forum's perspective...

The second filter, the filter of good is not moral goodness. It is good as in good, solid information. Usefulness is defined by relevance and obviously use.

Here's a link to the original context. (http://iranscope.ghandchi.com/Fun/socrates.htm)

So before you post anything on Rorta, maybe it'd be a good idea to look at the triple filter test and see if the post you're planning on making passes the filter.

It's not mandatory and this isn't a dictatorship, but it might prevent the discussion of whether HCl injected into the testicles will kill you.

It does!

Problem is, those most likely to write "HCl injected into the testicles will kill you" are least likely to apply any sort of self-imposed filter (not trying to pick on whoever wrote that, I'm pretty sure HCI injected anywhere is going to kill you)!

(For the record, I was being sarcastic)

Was posted in the thread regarding the perfect way to commit murder, as opposed to torture. ;)

yes i know,
'The' perfect murder should not be discussed... P.E, can you type up your torture methods? I'm eager to see them.

so i figured i'd throw my 2 cents in ,it seriously backfired

i'd personally like to just let it die.
and back to the point how would one define usefulness in a thread?

Usefulness in a thread.

Like I said, usefulness is defined by relevance.

If it's useful it's relevant, and vice versa.

If the information's useful then it's useful. (Obviously.)

I suppose whether something is useful can also be defined by whether it's good quality information and true. See filters #1 & #2.
