0900 hours I arrived on site to aid one of my bossess in felling two tree's and feed the bastards into the chippers, the day went well apart from the little down fall of rain we had but work still commenced, "you can't hide from the rain when the bullets are flying" he said.

Anyways, I'm on a modern apprentice scheme and I just wanted to know other members opinions, me I think they're a bummer, I was better off on the dole, I had more cash and more spare time... Fair jip, I wouldn't come out of the dole with qualifications but hey, we all need money, and the more the better.

Anyways, when my step father came by with milk he and my boss got talking and the boss was on about a letter he had recieved from the college, the letter was on about how the wage will be going from ?40 to ?80.

My boss, with no holds barred said "At the moment, I would rather give that ?80 to someone who has more knowledge in the field, blah blah blah". This pissed me off somewhat.

I mean, I work for fuck all, I do as much as the rest of them do and I am the black sheep, I make the coffee and shit, as you can imagine, I'm the scape goat, and I felt like saying to him:

"Someone with knowledge and expirience wouldn't work for ?80, and they certainly wouldn't run after you lot hand and foot making coffee at your beck and mother fucking call. Now get the fuck!"

Having said that I can see where the boss is coming from and shit and I have alot of respect for the people I work for and all that but that comment made me think, what's the fucking point?

Anyways, your views?

First-year apprentices are usually the underdogs, aren't they? It's a sad fact but it seems pretty much apart of the trade culture. It gets better, but see what you can do to earn your boss's respect. Chin up.

Hmm... been there, I worked in an office for ?65 per week. I was the assistant of the IT chick, and basically did everything she couldn't be bothered doing. The only problem was that I didn't have a fuckin' degree, which they didn't seem to grasp. I was able to do the work they gave me, but refused to because anyone else in the world designing catalogues wouldn't be getting so much less than minimum wage, so I played dumb for a while until I got too bored, and one day I went into the town for lunch and didn't come back.

I did, however, get the stupid qualification which came out of it. Can't remember what it was, but I have the certificate somewhere.
