Mu parents want me to move with them to Australia. I have been there once before but still do not know much about the country. If I dont go with them I can allways stay here, but it would be hard to do so without having to work my ass off to make a living. I'm sure I can research to find most things. But a first person view is much more valid. Basically what I'd like to know is;

How much trouble would I have to find a job that pays about 14-16 Aussie dollars?;

How much is a semester at a middle-level university?

Here we have community collage, provincial schools and private schools. Its pretty obvious which is best and worst. I'm asking about the provincial level as it is here.

I know things that are plastered on the internet like health care, economy, weather. I'd like to know more. Hopefully the Aussies on this forum can help.

Basically pros and cons are :

Pro:

- Weather is much better than in Vancouver. Warmer, less rain.
- More to do. Not hindered by the need for constant shelter.
- economy is slightly better at the moment.
- change of pace.
- Never having to deal with past enemies.
- Ex's cant suddenly decide to freak out at me for no apparent reason
- Can leave my past behind me

Cons:

- Adapting to the new area will be hard.
- Losing friends, connections, earned respect ect.
- I don't know how to abuse the system in Aussie as well as I do here.

So. Can the Aussies of the forum help with the pros and cons?

Also, whats the Australian equivalent of craigslist? Like a local website where people post ads selling their cars and whatnot. I want to get a better idea of the costs, what cars people drive and the resources around.

What part of Australia would you be moving too? Also Australia has craigslist.

I already looked. It doesn't have many postings. Not enough to get an idea of how things are there.

If Im going to stay here, I am probably going to get a SUV. So I wouldn't mind buying one there as well. Im thinking something like a ford explorer. Most people here drive Hondas, toyotas and those and many still drive some cars with branch plants here like ford and Chevy. We don't get many european economy cars apart from a few Volkswagens.

There are a lot of Holdens in Aussie, I still think you are better with the Japanese brands or a ford. Again where in Australia would you be living?

LOL that's not Australia. Thatch touristralia.

Mate if you are 18+ all jobs are like $15 and upwards.

Ebay is more widely used here or carsguide.com.au or The Trading Post.

Ask any real specific questions and will answer my best at the time

Living costs are most expensive there as well as regular merchandise. Am I wrong Nox?

The cost of living in Melbourne is pretty cheap, actually. But university is ridiculously expensive here.

Awesome. Weed is usually called Choof/Chuff round here if you're interested. Weapons and chemical laws are also very strict in Victoria. I'm trying to think of things that would apply to you.

I'm probably going to Melbourne sometime within the next year or so.

Anyone got any tips on what to do?

Is there anything a tourist would be interested in seeing?

I doubt there's anything relating to what I'm interested in. It's not Amsterdam or Switzerland.

(Thinks back to school excursions.) Touristy stuff - Queen Victoria Market, Old Melbourne Gaol, Federation Square, the Royal Arcade, and the National Gallery of Victoria are what comes to mind. The city's based on tourism, to be honest. What most people do is catch a train to Flinders st. station, then wander around the various alleyways buying shit. I've lived here for nine years, but never been a tourist, so I'm not really sure what there is for tourists to do. But yeah, like I said, just catch a train or a tram to Flinders st. and go wherever from there.

I live in Taree at the moment.

I have moved around a lot: Newcastle, Gloucester, Sydney, Port Maquarie and Taree.

For specific suburbs: Maryland, Adamstown in Newcastle and Austral in Sydney.

Newcastle is great! I wish I still lived there. Taree is shit, full of half-cast abo fuckers. All places I have mentioned are on the East Coast. I'm happy to be Australian!

Happy to live in a place with Julia Gillard as PM?

Happy to live in a place where they ban video games?

I certainly wouldn't be.

Well, I am not too good at understanding politics but I'm pretty sure she's better than Tony Abbott. They don't ban video games, we just don't have R rated games. They just change the gore in some horror games. It's a bit controversial and I think it's dumb to have R rated movies but not R rated games. We still have MA games (my initials!) like COD MW2 and Gears Of War etc. I had an Xbox 360 before it got RROD. I'm getting a slim for Xmas!

How much trouble would I have to find a job that pays about 14-16 Aussie dollars?; - None whatsoever, particularly if you're over 18 and have past work experience

How much is a semester at a middle-level university? - This depends on what course you're studying, if you're an undergraduate or postgraduate and if you're an international student or a domestic student. A rough estimation would be $5k-$7k, however a scheme called HECS is available which basically entitles you to free uni attendance then you pay it back whenever (when you are qualified and have a job) and if your salary is over, say $50k, they will take a small percentage off it. That is also denying the fact you can apply for a scholarship if you have good academic, sporting or music abilities.

I know things that are plastered on the internet like health care, economy, weather... You'll live comfortably in AUS, economy is booming at the moment (being very close to USA $) weather is different depending on location - Melbourne is generally mild though. Housing is incredibly expensive in some areas while cheap in others (Syd vs Bris), these are for mid-high socioeconomic neighborhoods, you can find dirt cheap places further away from the city of course.

You'll notice that, generally, Australians are racist bigots with rather low intelligence. You may find it hard to acclimatise coming from the US where this may be different. And as you were asking, http://www.tradingpost.com.au/, is like craigslist.
