MEKP or, methy ethyl ketone peroxide, is another organic peroxide, it is a liquid. Composition is C9H18O6. MEKP is made using, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), HCl (or H2SO4), and H2O2 (25-30% lower will not work). MEKP, being liquid is more stable than AP, it still isn't the safest primary explosive but eh, what is? I'm not quite sure of amounts for this...I'll find out and post it later.

MEKP is pretty unstable, but it's certainly not the most unstable primary explosive around. It's used in dilluted form as a curing agent in fiberglass work. It burns rather well, but i guess that should go without saying. It's also not that brisant, so its use in anything other than as a desensatizing agent for ammonium nitrate wouldnt be that great.

It smells god awefull, in my opinion. Is it reactive with metals? because I did a sensitivity test of this stuff, with a steel hammer, and it didn't need a very big blow (actually it showed that it was less stable than my AP.

I've always heard that it smelled terrible. It seems most peroxides are reactive with metals so I guess it makes sense that this would be...

I'd keep it away from transistion metals, but other than that I wouldn't worry. It's not going to complex with metals like copper as HMTD will.

I've never actually made the stuff so I wouldn't know much more than what I've read on the subject. I know that it smells like shit, it's oily, it's a pain in the ass, it's unstable but thats a pretty common thing among peroxides, and I also know that it isn't too useful unless you're trying to sensatize something that's pretty stable.
I've heard of it being stored in aluminum containers without much problem in relation to reaction... Now Personally I've always liked keeping energetic materials away from anything metal simply because plastics are usually more well suited for use with said materials.

You gotta be careful with plastics and MEKP, its also a solvent (yes it has more use in the industrial world than in the pyrotechnics world). Its not that its a pain in the ass, its just a little harder to deal with than acetone peroxide, and not as forgiving. And yes, it does smell like shit, not a bad smell like actual turds, but the kind of smell that gets in the back of your nose and pisses you the hell off.

Sour, acrid odor with a hint of diesel.

Yeah, I could see that smell getting to people. Reminds me of soured blood. That's a sweet but sick smell that you dont hate, but it gets in your nose and stays there for what seems like eternity. OK, mental note made: Don't make MEKP
