iIonce saw and held a knife at a store. It was a spring loaded knife. blah blah you dont care about that. The thing that really catches me is the fact that it opened and closed automatically by using the same button.. You would slide this little button forward about a centimeter and the blade shot out of the middle of the handle. To close the knife the button was slid about a centimeter the other direction and the blade shot back into the middle of the handle. Now I don't know what kind of knife this is, but I've absolutely GOT to know...

Anyone have any sort of idea? Anyone have one?

EDIT: ok the knives are called double action switch blades. Now my question is how the fuck do they work? I need to know how they auto shoot and auto retract.

Some knives from blackhawk use pressurized air for that... But i guess that one is just spring loaded?

yeah, I somewhat found out what it is. I't has 2 springs in it. the button that you slide forward has a tab on it that keeps the blade still while you push the button forward. when the spring has enough tension on it, the tab releases the blade and the blade shoots out of the handle. it shoots back in in exactly the same way.

I was just talking to a guy I know who'se all into knives and the like, and apparently theres a knife kind of like this but only with an auto fire, and not the auto retract. it has the same recoil as a 9mm pistol when you hit the button. if you hold it up to a kevlar vest and hit the button it'll open right on up and go right through the vest.

The second knife ye mentioned is a ballistic Knife, they where used by the Spetznaz, unfortunatly congress outlawed the springs used in the knife way back when, I do however seem to recall seeing an ad for them in Soldier Of Fortune way back when.

If I remember correctly the special spring shoots the blade out at 5 times the force of a manual stab, Im not quite sure whats so special about the spring and all that but it sounds like a fun project to try and make one.
