ok, well this isn't really a scam or crime really, but can lead to big paydays if your persistant.

SWIM started looking, when the opportunity arose, into the "J" drains that are under kitchen and bathroom sinks. Now you may think this is a waste of time, but can have huge payoffs if your willing to explore under the sink.

Alot of women drop rings, earrings, and whatnot down the drain quite alot. All you have to do is play the numbers game. I've found that on average you'll find a 'piece' every twenty or so drains.

At a minimum gold is worth its weight at the gold trader, with diamonds, skys the limit.

More often than not you'll find earrings, sometimes with a diamond, and most rare is a diamond ring.

Even an average diamond earring, no big deal, can net you anywhere from 150-500 at the jeweler. Best of all, usually the person who lost it has written it off, and you wont get pinched because no ones really looking for it.

Best places I've found for things are at locations where people use the bathroom often, but also dont have time to screw around if they drop something down it

Top of the list is airport washrooms, females is like raiding tuts tomb, but its tough to get in and out unspoted in the womens in the airport.

Next would be the bus station (like greyhound)
After that I find homes to be the best, often even if something important is dropped down there is no real hurry to get it because 'we know where it is' is often the thought i think.

SWIM had a job doing housecalls for peoples pets, and gave the person access to homes. Once you have a reason to be in someones home, its not hard to ask to go to the bathroom. Just take a small wrench if wanted, often not even nessesary, and you can check almost 40 (or however many calls you make) and check the drains.

Now many would say steal whatever, but this virtually risk free has worked for SWIM for sometime now.

Let me know how you make out.

Or you could go on the scrap (England). Van load of steel, copper or other types of metal...*

Or you could skulk down drains.

If anyone is on the scrap, the rate is quite high at the minute.

I, personally, think this is an absolutely awful idea, seeing how that in most cases, you wouldn't even know if anything was lost down there, and even so, if it's worth anything. And I'm sure that if a woman droppped something down the drain that had the slightest bit of value to her, she'd do everything in her power to retrieve it.

The "scrap" as you call it is an age old scheme. I have some friends who go into the part of town where all the salvage yards, dumps etc are, and steal a load of metal from one yard, take it across the street the next day, sell it, go back and steal it back, and sell it at a third location the next day. Depending on the going rate for the type of metal your are nabbing, you can make a few bucks this way.

That sounds more decent, and it sounds like it could work. But how would you steal it? Just take it to the back of the yard and toss it over the fence to a friend?

Well the lot I know have been doing it for years, they get most of it legit too from folks that don't want/don't know the value...

They've each got their own vans and all but one are signing the dole fornightly.

Now one of the guys pulls wads of 20's out when he's on the drink so yeah, I think I'd stay away from going down drains.
