if swim had an unregistered gun with no serial number, is there any chance that it could be traced back to SWIM after multiple shootings?
the above state is completely hypothetical

It can always be traced, if they for example catch the person you bought it from, or they find your prints on the shell casings you forgot to pick up. I'd change the barrel after easc shooting, if I were SWIM.

What if you haven't been finger printed, then they wouldn't be able to trace it that way :).

well SWIM wouldn't dream of doing a thing without his black leather gloves first
SWIM appreciates the information thus far

Well does SWIM have his fingerprints already on file at the local police station? If so SWIM would still be screwed.

well, SWIMs fingerprints are on file at the local police station, but how would the police trace it back to SWIM if he wore gloves while handeling the bullets and gun?

Unless you were caught recently after a specific shooting, and wore leather gloves, and burned all clothing after each one, and the gun was unregistered, and there were no witnesses, you should be off scot free.
Unless you could be tied to the victim in some way...

You should always watch where your prints end up, no matter if you're on file or not. If they'd for some reason suspect you of anything and search your prints in the DB, the unsolved cases containing your prints will also show on the search thus endangering your freedom greatly.

so will you tell SWIM how SWIY (someone who isn't you) would get away with a successfull shooting?

not having a serial number doesnt mean anything. the number is still there and always will be. you just have to rub the gun down with a certain chemical and then stick it into an oven. when the number was stamoed into the gun it etches the outline of the numbers way into the metal because of the impact and heat from the stamp.
as long as no evidence is left behind, and the gun has been "non existant" for a long enough time, then no there isnt much of a chance. besides... change out the $10 firing pin, the $50 barrel, and smooth the edges of the shell extracter with a file and you have a new gun anyway. all the markings left on any shell wont match the gun if you change it like that.
EDIT: SWIM = Someone Who I Met.

Noone looking to produce as little evidence as poissible should use leather gloves, they leave the same distinct imprints that fingerprints do,

SWIY should burn and bury everything tying SWIY to any illegal activity. In a place far far far away, at a time far far far from noticable.

SWIM Should Be aware of all DNA articles he or she can leave at the crime scene. i sugest SWIM should burn or hide cloths shoes and gun in very safe spot but not alltogether an if u leave any DNA SWIM should Invest in some bleach.
