If you've been paying attention to the howling screeching blood-soaked harpy that the American news media has become (and God knows I can forgive you if you haven't), you probably have heard how poli-blogging is apparently the biggest new trend in news since Rupert Murdoch was released from the flame-wreathed infernal pit of hell from whence he came. In some form or another I've been involved with the blogging scene since late 2001... y'know, before it was popular!!!

*street cred preservation ends*

While the mainstream media would have you think that most of the blogging scene goes hard to the right, in fact quite the opposite is true. *cough*HowardDean*cough* And while the media also raises concerns about the factual accuracy of the blogs (a real problem with wingnuts like Powerline, or Little Green Footballs (look them up, I'm not going to dignify them with webtraffic from my link,)) the simple fact of the matter is that while blogs are not infallible, the good ones factcheck and update and fix errors MUCH more often than media outlets do. "But ADN," I hear you say, "How do I know the good blogs from the unreliable stupid ones?"

I thought you'd never ask!!! :D

So in the spirit of providing a solid base of information to the new Politics forum, I'm posting my blogroll of kickass writers whose accuracy I can vouch for.

August Pollack, comic artist and nerd gives complex issues perspective so simple and profound, you'll wonder why you didn't see it that way before.

www.atrios.blogspot.com
While Atrios (AKA Duncan Black) is a smart enough guy, I get the sense that if I met him in real life, I'd want to level him with a punch. Very snarky, and best taken in small doses.

www.pandagon.net
Jesse Taylor, the owner of the site is awesome. Amanda Marcotte, the chronically bitchy co-writer... not so much. Still a daily must-read though.

www.alicublog.blogspot.com
Roy Edroso says what I actually mean to say. He just says it better, funnier, and more articulately.

www.norbizness.com
Funny site. Sometimes smart opinions too.

www.dailykos.com
Kos, the admin is a solid writer, even if he is an insufferable busybody. This site is better for its community. I use it to keep a finger on the pulse of left-of-center politics. Sometimes a good read, but it's really hit-or-miss.

www.juancole.com
A Guy Who is Much Smarter Than You dissects complex issues in the Middle East. It's actually really nice to read someone who has studied the region their entire lives. Much better than listening to Barbara Walters pretend he (<----not a typo) knows what the fuck he's actually talking about for the 836th straight time.

www.dailywarnews.blogspot.com
Daily summary of how badly the US has fucked up in Iraq again.

www.riverbendblog.blogspot.com
Riverbend is an Iraqi Shiite female with an Engineering degree currently living in Baghdad. And when I say "currently", I mean "her live-in cousin almost died in a car bomb explosion last week." She doesn't update every day, or even every week, but you should at least read her archives. Read them now. Leave this site and read them now. GO!!!

The last one, written by the woman, was the only one I read, and it stirs me.

Well, if you read only one, that's the one to read.
