For the barcodes, wouldn't you have to get it somehow set up to read as the product that you're buying on the cash register?

Why not make a thread to discuss that?

Each product has a unique barcode (usually called a UPC). One would then write down the numbers appearing under the barcode on the product box, and then input them into the barcode program installed on one?s computer in order to get the necessary layout of bars (one could also, in theory, draw the barcode by hand using a felt-tip marker and a straight edge, or use an online script like http://www.milk.com/barcode/, which unfortunately doesn?t offer resizing options), and then print the barcode out and place it over the existing one that?s on the product box. Stores which have the self-scanner stations (or perhaps just an unattended product scanner lying around) have the added benefit of allowing you to verify that your barcode does indeed work (i.e., that it does indeed show the product info you want it to show when scanned).
Hope this helps?.
