Peacefire (http://www.peacefire.org/) is saying they'll pay users $10 (http://www.peacefire.org/circumventor/we-will-pay-you.html) if they install/run their Circumventor (http://www.peacefire.org/circumventor/) proxy software for a week.

The Circumventor is a program we wrote to help people get around Internet blocking software. When you install it on your home computer, it creates a new URL (web page address) that you can then share out with other people, and they can use that URL to circumvent Internet censorship.

To help create more Circumventor URLs that more people can use, we are offering anybody $10 to install the Circumventor on your PC and share out the URL with us. We'll distribute the URLs to people who need them, such as people serving in the U.S. military overseas (where Internet connections are censored to limit access to sites such as MySpace), and victims of totalitarian dictatorships such as China, North Korea, and high school.

Huh.. Yeah... Open your own computer for people in communist regimes to use your ip. You'll be surprised when you receive a visit from your local fbi for violation of international law.

If you AGREE that a chinese breaks his laws using YOUR COMPUTER, YOUR IP and YOUR BANDWIDTH then you're an accomplice.

I urge you NOT to install this, unless you seek DEADLY SERIOUS trouble in a short time.

Care to provide a link or other reference to this 'international law' you're invoking?

Regardless, one can still filter IPs from TLDs you don't 'trust' in a suitable firewall program. For instance, one such list is available here (http://www.my-proxy.com/content/Proxy%20Knowledge/IP%20Ranges%20and%20Country%20Code%20(safe/unsafe)!.html).

Going further, one can also use a bandwidth shaper such as Netlimiter (http://www.netlimiter.com/) to restrict the allotted bandwidth for the Circumventor program to something miniscule such as .01Kbps. The proxy server is thus still technically running, but will be much too slow for anyone to actually use, thereby still allowing you to collect the promised $10.

Is it $10 per week or a one off payment?

DIzzIE , i've been arrested 3 times for hacking so far. Crimes in that area are not area specific. IF somebody over china for example wants to beat the shit out of you because you violated their local laws, they can very well do it.

1- Because this is communism, and wether ppl are using your proxy or not, it's still "open" for chineses to break their laws, WITH YOUR APPROVAL.

2- Violation in the first instance makes any traffic illegal, so if someone manages to wait 5 mins for a page like rorta or totse, you can be "oversea-charged" with terrorism or crime against the state, since such litterature is 100% banned there.

Btw, forget about the so-called free speech of totse. This is just becoming another useless PC forum. What to expect when 90% of moderators are under 20yo and the other 10% are jews...
