Lets talk about chems that are just plain fun to play with. Swim once took a jar of pool cleaner into a theater. Once the movie started he opened the jar and placed a sponge in the jar, just floating on the liquid pool cleaner. On top of that he placed some shredded aluminum foil. He then calmly strolled out leaving the jar on the floor. In the time it took to smoke a single cig, the theater all of a sudden "let out" as everyone watching that movie left in quite a hurry. It seems when the aluminum meets the cleaner a reaction happens. The theater filled with a rather nasty gas. Damn near caused riot! :sasmokin:

sadly that makes SWIM a terrorist and a shit face. too bad that's NOT fun. besides, what's in this pool cleaner? quite possibly SWIM made something which could have caused serious lasting damage to a large number of people.

I realy have no idea what gas this creates. But I do know its quite bad stuff. And if you take the top off the pool cleaner for a few days beforehand, it reacts even faster. What kind of dipshit are you fullmetaljacket?

thats probably because some of the water evaporated out of the jug and concentrated it a little. kinda like reducing/concentrating something on your stove, except at a much slower rate.

POOL CLEANER ? That's chlorine, dumbass.
Chlorine + Aluminum = Aluminum chloride gas
When aluminum chloride gas is mixed with air (aka container left open), it becomes terrifically acidic and forms a sticky "goo" on stuff. Goo capable of eating stainless steel away.

POOL CLEANER ? That's chlorine, dumbass.
Chlorine + Aluminum = Aluminum chloride gas
Cl+Al--> AlCl3 = Aluminum trichloride AKA Aluminum chloride which is a solid at room temperature
You sure pool cleaner is always chlorine? I mean it's not like it could be any one of the other 500 things on the shelf at lowes, or home depot, or wal-mart, or meijer that says "pool cleaner" that doesn't have chlorine in it right? Ass thats why we asked.
HERE (http://physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/AL/aluminium_chloride_anhydrous.html) is the MSDS for aluminum chloride.
Funny that it says that Aluminum chloride is a yellow to grey, or white solid and not a gas... It isnt a gas till it's heated to 190?C, which is when it goes straight from a solid to a gas. It's already acidic before it ever touches air... The bad shit that you would breathe in is HCL fumes. But, yeah, I guess Breathing in hydeochloric acid vapors would make me clear out of a closed room pretty quickly.
As for the "goo", possibly some moisture left over from the pool cleaner? possibly hygroscopic?
:EDIT: had to remove guess it dun work here eh? heh

HCl isn't pool cleaner, it's a pH adjuster.
'Pool cleaner' as chlorine is usualy Calcium hypochlorite, Ca(ClO)2.
And I don't think it would react with aluminium.
But hydrated Aluminium chloride is rather corrosive, the most common Lewis acid, and anhydrous will explode on contact with water. Furhtermore, it won't 'eat right through', it will just attack it a little.
So figure out your own plan from there. Preferably one that isn't stupid, if that isn't too much to ask.

yup. about 250ml muriatic inside a glass bottle with a 1 foot square sheet of aluminum foil twisted into a thin "stick". drop the aliminum foil into the jar after the muriatic has been put in and put the stopper with hose attached into the mouth of the bottle. the hose goes to a piece of glass tubing which is extending through a rubber stopper inside a flask full of water. the glass tube goes to the bottom of the flask so that any hydrogen produced bubbles through the water and acid vapors are removed. the flask has a barbed nipple in the side at the top which another piece of hose is hooked to. on the end of this hose is a party balloon.
the cannon is loaded and the end cap is removed. when the balloon fills up with hydrogen so it's slightly bigger than a soft ball then the balloon is pulled from the hose. the cannon is held barrel up and the hydrogen is released into the combustion chamber from below. cap is screwed on, ear plugs are put in, "click".
not really all that loud unless im shooting somehting that's really light weight and has really good contact with the barrel wall, which is when it makes a high pitch bang that makes the ears ring. large objects get a satisfying thud and a small recoil.

What SWIM did was take about 20 plastic waterbottles and put in some toilet bowl cleaner(hydrochloric acid) and dropped in some aluminum foil. Then left it at ideal spots in K-Mart. Very funny cause of where SWIM lives drive byes are a daily thing so when they heard the bang it made they though they were gettign shot at so they all dropped. Then they got caught by the gas and everyone was coughing and gagging.

Aluminum chloride isn't really that dangerous to breath in - infact I don't know of any hazards unless it goes in your eyes or skin in which it could burn.
Plus I'm sure that the public chlorine is heavily diluted because of the risks of it being used as a chemical agent.
However if you disturbed a movie I was watching I would kick your ass lol.

i found this concerning the aluminum in the pool cleaner
Upon chemically reacting with an active metal, acids will evolve hydrogen gas (H2). The key word, of course, is active. Some metals, like gold, silver or platnium, are rather unreactive and it takes rather extreme conditions to get these "unreactive" metals to react. Not so with the metals in this property. The include the alkali metals (Group I, Li to Rb), the alkaline earth metals (Group II, Be to Ra), as well as zinc and aluminum. Just bring the acid and the metal together at anything close to room temperature and you get a reaction

Ok, the toilet bowl cleaner will moste likely contain 'Caustic soda'.. If mixed with water and aluminium foil (key ingredient), it reacts and creates hydrogen gas (highly flameabale and toxic!).
So the bottles with toilet cleaner and aluminium foil in a store is more of a terrorist attack then a harmless prank.
Never do this!!

World War One, is often referred to as the 'Gas Revolution', as it was the first war in history where Gas had been used against the enemy.
There is a Wilfred Owen Poem about Patriotism and Gas, which describes the death of a fellow soldier. It was called 'Dulce et Decorum Est (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulce_et_Decorum_Est)', Latin for It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. There's a link to the Wikipedia page...
When I was in France I went to several of the battlefields where they released Gas, in the replanted forests, you can still see where the trenches were. I'll scan some photos in.
The major problem with Gas is it can also hit the people who released it. If the wind changes direction...

What's so good about a weapon that can kill you if the breeze happens to be travelling in your direction?
My favourite is magnalium. It's expensive of course, but it has so many spectacular uses within the pyro industry, discovered and undiscovered. For example, in some circumstances when used as an additive in rocket fuels it crackles and turns the jets white, other cases where I use it is for flash compositions where much is needed for a shell (as it uses cheaper K.nitrate rather than K.perchlorate).
It makes great stars too.

Note the shear volume of Gas being emitted, and the proximity of the Gas to the troops using it's trench. Also note that any change of direction in terms of wind will blow a percentage of it back...
