anyone know of a place where I could possibly get some armor piercing ammo for my 45 auto pistol? I've looked online for quite ome time and while i've found more information on the subject that I care for, and some interesting pictures... I havent found a good place to get any.

there are a few kinds that i'd like to get.

type #1: a tungsten slug with a lead or copper coating on the outside to engage the rifling in the barrel.

Type #2: a lead bullet with a copper jacket that has a tungsten or steel core

Type #3: a saboted tungsten bullet that comes screaming out of the barrel, the sabot sleeve seperates and leaves the small tungsten round flying uber fast.

There may well be other kinds that I like and are cool but I havent come across them yet. Anyone seen anywhere online that sells such ammo?

EDIT:
I of course would also appreciate it if anyone could point out to me where to get explosive rounds that arent $50 for 5...

Why do you need armor piercing bullets? Going to shoot at tanks or armored trucks? You don't need them for regular cars...

believe it or not, cars stop hand gun ammo pretty well. I went to get a car stereo installed the other day and saw a torn up car in the stereo shop parking lot with 4 holes in the side from a 45. only 1 bullet went through and it was about 3 inches under the window framing where there are less sheets of metal. The owner of the shop showed me the bullets because he had pried them from the car. the car belonged to a guy who was sitting at a redlight like 2 minutes after leaving the stereo shop when a drug dealer he had cheated pulled up and shot at him.

looked like full metal jacked rounds to me (hart to tell, the bullets were pretty flat but they still had large pieces of copper jacket hanging off of them).

the main reason i wanted them was to test them out, shoot at different stuff and see what they did compared to regular bullets. I've got some thigh metal sheets id like to try to shoot through as well.

I'm not 100%, but aren't armor piercing bullets illegal? At any rate, I believe the best person to talk to is a guns and ammo dealer.

the legality of such bullets depends on where you live. here in south carolina such things are supposed to be legal i believe. Ammo dealers here dont usually sell that kinda stuff though, just the regular wad cutters and full metal jacket rounds. most places dont sell anything special unless you sign your signature in blood saying that the dealer can have the head of your first born on a pike or they get to claim ownership of your virgin ass or something... those assholes.

Gunbroker is your best bet for the exploding ammo

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=61604993
10 rounds of incenderary starburst ammo started at 18$ (at most Id guess you get it for 20$)
or more of the like can be found at
http://www.hi-vel.com/Catalog__18/catalog__18.html

as for armor piercing .45 ammo I really havent seen much around (prehaps because .45 is such a slow moving round)

Alright, since armor piercing is pretty much out of the question, how about just exotic rounds?

this would exclude regular ball and hollow point unless they were a bit different than the regular stuff. like this website for example...

www.extremeshockusa.com

they make rounds that are designed to have maximim stopping power and minimum penetration so that they can be used inside planes and houses and not go through walls or plane outer skins, but they also make a round which i may just buy called the fang face explosive entry round. it's a hollow point that has a tungsten polymere core that rather than staying together like other tungsten core ammo, fragments extremely rapidly. it's actually got great penetration too, almost enough to be considered armor piercing. theres a page on the site that shows what some of the ammo does, and the 'anti terrorism round" being the explosive entry round makes a 5 inch wide entry hole in a block of clay.. that's pretty fuckin destructive ammo...

anyone seen any odd rounds like this though? i saw some glass rounds that had a plastic plating on them once, but i havent been able to find them lately, and i've also seen some frangible ammo made from both nylon plastic compounds and also metal compounds than can punch a hole straight through metal, but damn near explode when they hit soft things like flesh.

any ammo like that that anyone thinks is cool, just throw it in here. id like to just see what kinds of rounds people have now. i may get a few of em though if i like some of em..

I was looking for a saboted flechette like round (there are no fins on the back of the flechette, but instead the back is shaped like a cone like a blow dart. the flechette was also about twice as thich as the standard 1.5 inch flechette) , but the only place ive ever seen that is at a gun show a few years back.

I'm not a gun person, so I wouldn't know, but what about making your own armor piercing bullets? If there's a way, I'm sure google has the answer.

all you would really need is the materials and a reloader.

Extreme Shock hasnt done anything special in my experience and as for other tests http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot23.htm not so impressive

Go for Hornady TAP or Ranger SXT (think ye can get both in .45)

As for manufacturing AP rounds, this can be kinda tricky to do espescially for someone new to reloading, Id suggest getting a reloading press and practicing with regular ammunition for quite a while before trying to cast some kind of AP round.

That is unless you can purchase pulled AP bullets (try shotgun news) and then just reload using those.

lol i havent done a single thing with my site in quite some time. i was gonna take some piccers of the difference between regular .45 bullets, and hollow point 45 bullets but i couldnt get a big enough block of clay to test with before the day i was going to go shoot my pistol.

it's sad really, ive got a pulse jet engine 90% made but i just kinda quit making it. i should probably finish that.

ive got a flame thrower that i need to finish and put on there... ive got 80% of the parts i need for that.

ive been more consumed by my gun, paintball, and work lately to get anything for my site done.
