View Full Version : Hotwiring cars
who's house?

Ok, hypothetical question:
If someone was to break into a car without alarms etc, and was trying to hotwire it, how would one find it? Is it as easy as it's made out to be (just a case of touching 2 wires together)
Basically SWIM thinks it seems fairly easy to hotwire a car, but I'm pretty sure there has to be more to it than this

I'd advise you take care like mate where you steal from, go for cars that are practicly out ov sight, ear shot etc. Wey just smash the passenger side window and open up from there.
Once ya in...
Kick the cover off the dash to reveal the wires.
Get a hold ov the ignition circuit wires. These are red in older makes ov carz but in newer cars the can be blue, black and i've heard ov some being yellow. you'll be able to find wire diaphrams somewhere on the net so when ya do just identify which wire.
Scrape the plastic coatin from the end ov the wires from the ignition and touch them together until you hear the engine... Now you can drive the car.
...don't get nailed...

Thanks
Most cars around my area either have shit alarms or none at all, so they're not too hard to get into, but I always figured it would be way too difficult to hotwire one. I've heard of a lot of cars being broken into, but I've only heard 1 or 2 peole actually taking one

Basically you break the area under the steering colum, which is rather hard.. you can usually rip it off if you pull really hard.
There's 2 ways to start the car, pull the little black box off the end of the ignition and use anything hard to turn the circular thing - very easy - you could turn it with any key - it's about 5 millimeters deep and about 5 wide in a circular shape.
Hot wiring is a different story, basically it's trial and error unless you're experienced.
Petrol cars has 2 wires and diesel have 3 (if I can remember correctly). basically you cut all the wires and then try the black and red ones together - but be warned some cars have like 20 different combos.
EDIT: Breaking the steering lock is quite hard also - requires a bit of pulling in which you can damage it - making the steering wheel unusable.

Thats all cool but seriously from my experience it hardly matters where your gonna jack from if its in the dead of the night ,just need to make sure cameras can't make out who you are.
Another fing ,lol about smashing the window ,if its an older car I can open it within 1-5
minutes using the back of a spoon.
Sometimes it's irresistible not to lol.

In older cars, especially 80's model vehicles you can just use a screwdriver or something to force the ignition to turn. Some people say this isn't true, but I've had to do it to cars I've owned..and it does indeed work. If nothing else it will unlock the gearshift and the steering wheel.

There really arent many of them around...
There maybe quite a few cars around, which have inactive alarms, but how do you know which ones are inactive. Also thanks to advancements in car "building" its pretty hard to hotwire a car.

Most people with 80s cars have had to hotwire them at some stage. My dad was in a bar when his car keys went missing. 20 miles from home, he had to hotwire his car. Alot of other people probably have similar stories lol...
