"Jihad" can best be defined as "unintelligent, mindless drones killing themselves for nothing except the further oppression of thought, innovation, art, women, and freedom and the radicalization of spirituality as a form of extreme population control."
Hey, let them live in the stone age.

No jihad had can be defined as a holy war against a foreign invader who has no right to be in your land, If more Irish where Muslim we would have had a jihad.

You're both wrong. The word means struggle. It doesn't matter if it's in war or not. For a Muslim to try and live a virtuous and moral (islamic) life it can be a struggle, and the word jihad is often applied to that also. The people who think that jihad means 'holy war' are the people who gulp down the yankee propaganda that is spoonfed to them.

Well, given that I wasn't being totally serious, the broad definition of jihad makes that word and "Islam" an oxymoron.

Jihad and Islam = paradox.
Jihad: (4) In broader usage and interpretation, the term has accrued both violent and non-violent meanings. It can refer to striving to live a moral and virtuous life, to spreading and defending Islam, and to fighting injustice and oppression, among other usages. (Wikipedia)
Islam: Oppresses women, kills minorities, refers to non-Muslims as infidels. Chopping off heads is justice? According to whom? Chopping off hands so thieves can steal, but how can they work? Just two examples. Moral and virtuous? Actively engaged in the trading and selling of sex slaves, even children.
While I don't mean to stereotype, because I know not all Muslims are like this, I think the idea of that barbaric religion being associated with "moral and virtuous" to be quite the paradox. Therefore, Islamic jihad is an oxymoron.
"Sometimes, the labeling of an otherwise non-paradox expression as a perceived oxymoron is made on the basis of substituting an alternative, non-intended meaning for the meaning normally intended in the context of the expression in question. For instance, in the expression Civil war, the term civil is normally intended to mean "between citizens of the same state". In this sense, the expression is neither paradox nor self-contradictory. However, if one forcibly construes civil in the sense of 'non-military' or 'reasonable and polite', the expression may become a perceived contradiction in terms." - Wikipedia
I detect no cliches.

Bah. Read the paragraph you posted about what an oxymoron is again. An oxymoron is not just two things that seem to exlude eachother, especially since you made up your own definition of Muslim that many people with disagree with. An oxymoron is a term consisting of two words whose meanings when alone are antonyms, or very nearly such. Civil war is a great example. Islamic Jihad is not. The cliche is that people say nearly any odd paring of words is a damn oxymoron. Military intelligence is a terrible one. It's not a fucking oxymoron.

Y'know that Christians have commited the same 'evil' and did the same bad things that the Islamic fundamentalists are commiting these days? It may have been a couple of centuries ago but that's no excuse. In fact, there are still Christians doing it now but it's just not endorsed by any Christain religious figures. So how is it possible for Christians to live a moral and virtuous life? Easy, the same way as Muslims who don't support the fundamentalist crap do.
Islam is not for

Just as Christianity is not for burning people alive, oppressing technological advancement, enslaving races, stealing from peasants and leaving them to starve in famine, etc.

I'm not arguing Christianity's dark past, Stone, but it does have one. I limited myself to the topic of the thread. That's all. You would be correct, though. The Holy Roman Empire was the worst time in "white" history.

Yes, people do overuse "oxymoron" too often, but if supported, using it is justified. I didn't blindly use it.
Of course many people will disagree with my own definition of Muslim. It's my personal opinion! When I use "Muslim" in that context and pair it with Jihad, it is an oxymoron, just like "military intelligence" is an oxymoron when people use that term in a certain context (ie "Soldiers have no intelligence. They have to follow orders").
You're clearly mistaken on this one, Armalite.
