Getting games cheaper
Well I tried this at my local Blockbuster and it worked brilliantly because of their playguard policy, working to my advantage.
Recently my fave game Halo 2 had been fucking up, so I decided to go and rent it so I could burn a copy of it. But it was then I realised there was a scam I could pull off and get to keep the game.
I took the BB rental sticker off and put it on my Halo 2 which wasn't working.
I took the CD I had swapped back to the store when the rental time was up.
Because I'd already payed for the playguard they couldn't bill me for the damages, and I ended up geting a new working game for ?3.
The free way:UNTESTED
I haven't tried this yet but I imagine it would work.
What you do is go to a rental store after they've closed and take a few long strips of duct tape and put them sticky side up in the return slot next to each other, and tape a strip cross ways at the top so it's secure and in place.
Heres a diagram of what I mean:

What this should do is when people go to return their videos, games etc, then they will get stuck to the tape and not go down the slide.
And you can pull up the duct tape with your suprise goods stuck to it, an hour or 2 before they open up.
Note: The last method has not been tested yet

I think duct tape would be pretty obvious.
Another method, use NetFlix or BlockBuster, burn a copy of the DVD, scan the disc cover, make a disc label and put it on the copy, send it back, keep the original.

or just burn it and keep the burned copy. much easier and you save more money.

the ink and paper would add up, and, in the end, it'd be cheaper to just buy dvds new.

In the end, it would be cheaper NOT to buy DVD's. Prices for supplies are low. Just have to look.
Another idea in its infancy is ripping off the DVD rental found inside various Safeways. $1.49 per rental, 99c on Mondays (new releases too). Just need a way around paying with a personal debit/credit card. Get it to work, that's the cheapest money can buy.

Im pretty sure the duct tape scheme wouldnt work. The person shoving it through the slot would notice the friction, and push harder, tearing the duct tape off. Among other things that may happen.
Switching works well, but it'd be nice to get some movies I dont already own. So far Im just sticking to adding up accounts at various stores. The lady at the local movie rental shop knows my cousin as "Jamie Diggler". Definitely not his real name.

Well an idea someone helped me make up was to use a keyboard box in the slot and tape that down and let the games/dvds slide into that. Theres many various things you could try with this, so I'll do some experimenting and get back to you.

Why not open the chute and tape a plastic bag to the inside within arms reach? :S

Ha, how about just wielding the chute shut and putting a bin outside that says, "Place Returns Here."

That really doesn't sound that crazy... you can get a spot welder for 10 bucks at wally world and make a convincing wooden box with a lock and chain it to a bench for 5 bucks and if you do it on a sunday night after they close and grab it before they open on monday (the time with the most returns)... This isn't crazy because I know for a fact hollywood video by my place doesn't use real cameras exept for one watching the registers (my buddy was a manager there for a few years) I am not about to try it myself but I have to tell a buddy aout it

I imagine that if you do that scam from the time the store closes to before it opens you will get jack shit. Who says "Hey! Let's take our DVDs back at 12:00a.m./6:00a.m.". Lol. :wt:

Alot more than you'd think, actually. Especially in a college town like mine... I'm so trying this.

Scout out small grocery store video rentals. The ones by where I live have nothing security oriented at all.

i used to have a 9 month free subscription to netflix... i would just change my email after each trial period. used same address. after a while i just didnt feel like risking it anymore so i stopped. but couldnt this same strategy be used for video games at a similar service?
