Over the last few decades Canada has gradually lost its individuality. Everyone here still loves to point out hockey, and beavers, and our maple leaf, but lets face it, were done for. Not only do we tune in to American television, go to American movies, watch American news, and worship American celbrities, but weve developed a rather similar government. Prime Minister, President, same deal. Yes, we have our seperate ways of doing things, but Canada is basically existing (especially the military) to do whatever it is the US want us too.

Whats your stand on Canada? A country living up to less than its potential, or something more?

It's a conspiracy called Americanisation. It's a more subversive way of converting the world to the US's culture instead of the violent and forceful (but similar outcome) Russification policy implemented by Stalin. Of course I am just talking shit but what if that's right and we are really unaware of this evil plot?

Sounds like your people are to blame for guzzling down all of our "culture," not us. Besides, its not like anyone cares about canada anyway. :nana:

Maybe if Canada had developed its own culture over the centuries like the US did, it wouldn't have that problem...

Ive only been within Ontario, but from what Ive seen of Canada it is a much nicer place than the UK or America.

People are generally friendly, even to strangers. Almost everyone I came across was well manered and polite. Things seemed to move at a slower pace, and no-one gave a fuck in general.

If only it wasn't for the annoying accent... :-P

Canadians have a different accent to Americans?

canadians are generally nicer people. yeah, i guess its a different accent too. we have plenty of culture here. much of which we have developed over the centuries. id say we developed ten million times more culture than the states, the real upsetting part is that we slowly lose it daily by giving into the states, and the mindless junk that seems to count for culture these days.

Canadians in Windsor are complete pricks to Americans from what I've heard. My friend went up there during his spring break and came back claiming he had been shit on by Canadians the whole time he was there.

I'm American and I have not noticed that Canadians speak any differently.

If Canadians really are nicer, then maybe you'll see me up there...though I probably can't take the cold.

And about the culture thing, whose fault is that? If you have so much more culture than Americans, then it's your own fault for giving in to us IMHO. Why do something like that?

it is our fault... im not trying to blame the americans. i think its a sad thing that we give in. i think americans have the opportunity for good culture too. we just waste it on aimless media, and wasteful resources.

Did I accidentally imply some kinda love for the American accent? ;)

haha, i dont think theres a huge accent unless youre in the maritimes.

sayitaintso, as for your claim, i really wouldnt doubt it. im sure theres people EVERYWHERE that dislike americans. but believing thats true to all of canada is like disliking black people because "this one time i met a real mean one". same goes for canadians disliking americans, cant let dubya spoil our view of the rest of ya.

I was watching Max X today an saw a riot in Canada after a hockey match. Funniest thing i seen all week. I don't think Canadians know how to riot but they started to get the hang of it. lol

y'know...as far as canadians go, they are generally nicer...they remind me of refined texans. As for the country taking on some of our aspects, it's to be expected...we both came from the same shit....
