DIzzIE

On the off chance that this is of interest to anyone...
The Curious Story of How DIzzIE Was Banned from TOTSE
Once upon a time, in a sickly civil-liberty curbing clime that accompanies any sensationalized drama, say, for example, the record-breaking hokie shoot, a user made a certain post in the Printed Matter sub-forum of TOTSE. Speaking in the supposed light of hindsight, I don?t even remember who the original poster was, or the verbatim transcription of the post (as I initially saw no need to save a copy, oh how wrong I was?). At any rate, the post in question had a link to the play Richard McBeef ( http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/0417071vtech1.html ), and asked for member commentary/discussion on the topic. Yawn and flash forward a day later, and I happen to notice that the seemingly innocuous post has been locked by a recently-appointed PM moderator, bangbangsilverhammer, with the reason being ?not funny? (not clear if she was referring to the play, the post itself, or to her own cunt self, but I digress..). Flash forward again to the next day, and I suddenly find that the post has disappeared. Well, magically vanishing posts tend to go down about as well as curdled cum loads with me, so I took the liberty of making another post in PM along the lines of:
As far as I can tell, nothing in the rules ( https://www.totse.com/en/_faq/totse_faq.html ) or forum description (Books, Magazines, and Newpapers. What you read and why you read it. Favorite authors, magazines you read, recommendations for future reading, unusual books and where to purchase them, and sources of strange mail.) that should have warranted the locking and apparent subsequent deletion of the original thread.
I don't have it saved verbatim, but a user posted a link to a play entitled Richard McBeef ( http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/0417071vtech1.html ), and asked for opinions about it. The thread was then apparently locked and later deleted with the reason being that the play (or post?) was "not funny." (according to bangbangsilverhammer).
Euda, another PM mod, replied with:
I deleted it as spam. I'll move this to Bitch and Moan.
It's insensitive to many Americans, at the moment, and I'll treat it as such.
And so on it went, you can read the whole exchange here ( https://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=1996725 ) (or if the former link gets deleted, as many of the others did, here?s (http://www.dizzy.ws/totsefuck.pdf) a mirror).
After getting no explanation from Euda/bangbangsilverhammer other than that the post was ?insensitive to Americans? and/or had ?no literary merit,? (neither reason being against TOTSE?s rules outlined in the aforementioned FAQ ( https://www.totse.com/en/_faq/totse_faq.html )) I proceeded, as promised, to repost the original post yet again. This went on a total of about seven times, with me receiving a collection of ?infractions? from bangbangsilverhammer and the post getting moved around to various forums like Spurious Generalities, and eventually getting deleted from there as well. Sooner or later, Euda made a post saying some magic new rule ( https://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=1997217) had been enacted which would forbid the posting of anything that could potentially be deemed ?offensive and hurtful with regard to current events?, to which I replied with
Humoring you for the moment and assuming that your newly made rule has any validity whatsoever, the thread in question herein was made several days prior to the existence of this 'rule.' In other words, the original thread was made when it was still 'legal' to do so ;) (the reply was, of course, deleted, as it?s clear that post deletion is their standard MO by now).
The next day I found myself banned from the forums for ?spamming.? Though the ban is set to expire after ten days, as I plan to keep my promise and continue making the post, I don?t see events taking a positive turn anytime soon (the obligatory sob emails to Zok/Jeff yielded no response whatsoever).
And so it goes, seven years of submitting textfiles to the main site and four years of contributing to the forums later and I get banned, from totse of all places, for being ?insensitive to Americans? (with even the reason for the ban being obfuscated as ?spam?). Who'd a thunk it? Ah well, c?est la vie and all that?
