bumping for tubular locks???
I have been picking locks for a while now, some years ago I just up and started in my living room, made my own rake type pick that always got into the pin tumblers I was working on back then, although it always took way too long, between 1-5min and a bit of luck involved. I recently got back into it a few weeks ago after going thru a bit of a broke spell, anyways, for some reason I just could not pick jack all, but I wasn't using the rake anymore, this time trying the real thing, one pin by one using home-made pick and tension tool I brewed up.
Anyhow, after getting truely frusterated many many times, I all but gave up on it again, except last night I was checking around for more info on the subject and decided to browse a bumping link (i've seen tem all over but never paid much attention to it cause I didn't know what it was...) anyways, last night made my first bump-key after reading a great primer on the sub, and wham! busted thru my first test lock (pin tumbler) within a few secs, now I can do it and my front door lock consistantly within 3sec everytime!! yah!! what a rush especially after all the bullshit frusterations I went thru lately!! Anyways, those are all pin tumbers, and there is a bit of a trick to doing it in the way that one bumps tyhe key with the bang tool (I find ya gotta go in on an angle to get it right away...) Well, I am now brewing up a full-on set for my key-ring, want some for doing padlocks but also for a tubular lock system....does anyone kow if they can be bumped? They have pins loaded with springs so I guess it is possible, my fried brain just can't seem to wrap around a design at this point to tackle...I did manage to open my floor safe using a old pen tube, but you have to re-pick them seven or eight times to get the thing open cause of the locks config. There must be an easier way, without buying or making an actual tubular pick set (which I am also working on but will take some time, more than I really want to invest) one thing I was thinkin was using an old 'glo-plug' starter, if anyone into nitro motor hobbies knows about these they understand...these are usually spring loaded so as to fit around the glo plug and stay clamped there, I was thinking that with minimal modification one could use that to stuff into the tube lock, pull the spring action back, stuff yer tension tool in somewhere, release the starter and simutaniously put some torque into the tension tool?? What-da-ya think? The only other thing I can think of is using the pen type tube and relying on the locks springs to p-ush it back out after it is pushed in, and gently tap on the back of the pen tube so as to give that bumping action to the pins all at once- the clearances would have to be alot better than what I have experienced so far before it would werk tho, so I dunno.... just throin those thoughts out there, not yet tried either methods? has anyone got some experience with these lock systems? how bout the parking meters (yeah still got my feelers out on those too...) |

Could you explain a little what a Bump key is or how to make one? I don't feel like googling, as I'm leaving in a few.

If Electric toothbrushes werent so damned expensive I would try that. Definitely look into the other theories. Sounds like you already know more about it than most.
